Out from the deep?

Hello!!

Long time I was considering a Daytona black or white, I like both. And seems that the time arrived.

The other day I saw in a local forum that a guy was selling his Daytona and accepting some trades for other Rolex. I did offer to him my DeepSea and he agreed.

My DeepSea is from 2011 G serial. Daytona from 2001 K serial. Both watches are complete and unpolished. The seller wants my watch and 1500$ on top, do you think it's a fair trade?

Maybe I'll meet the guy today or tomorrow. Anything I should check in the watch?

Why I've decided to let the DeepSea go? I wear only the 14060 Swiss only and the LV MKI, I don't know why, maybe the size or cause I see the dial to busy after the 14060.

That's a nice looking 116520. Skinny hands and original clasp (I'd forgotten about that clasp).

The Daytona is quite a bit older than your DSSD. You may want to ask about service history. If you'll need to give it a service, that may be a consideration in the price.

Yes, I'll ask about the service history, let's see. But I guess I'll get this answer, I didn't wear the watch much and never needed service.

I was thinking to offer 1000$, but I don't know if the right price should be 1500$ as he seller asked.

The watch looks good and I think the money is about right - I think if you offer 1000-1200 that covers you to get the Daytona serviced/pressure tested.

The Daytona would be about 9,500-10,000 selling in the open market and your watch would be 8,000-8,500 so it's pretty close.

Thank you! I'll ask the seller if he will accept 1000$ and see. For me important is that never have been polished.

If you are comfortable with letting your Deepsea go, the money is about right but I would offer a little less than the 1,500 as chances are that the Daytona will need a service.

Seller is asking for 2200$ now... So I said no to him. I don't understand why people says a price and after change their mind. Anyway, there will be more SS Daytona out there waiting for me ;)

Not that I want it over, problem is that I do not wear much the DSSD, that's why I prefer to sell it or trade it. But if I don't sell it or trade it, the DSSD will stay with me, I still like it.

$1500 seems like a very fair amount to me. I would grab it and run. Even if it does need a service, you are about right.

Clearly the seller is a complete PUTZ - check with one of the trusted sellers here on the forum and see about a trade plus cash - you'll likely get a newer model Daytona for almost the same money.

anyway, i don't think it was a good deal, so, all the better for you.

i'd have said, given the respective MSRPs, ages and service costs, the trade should have been much closer to even than $1,500 coming from you.

Maybe he felt that I was so interested that I'll agree at any cost. Anyway, he will keep his Daytona is he is planning to sell it for almost 9.000€...

One of the things that I like the most about getting a new watch is the nights I spend searching and reading about it. I guess I'll have more joy time ;)

Problem is that I do not wear it. I wear the 14060 or LV. Just to try the Daytona and if I don't like it I can easily sell it, trade it or give it to my wife and get another watch for me.

I try to just keep the watches I use.

But for sure, the DSSD is an amazing watch

I prefer the SS model. Yes, if I do not sell or trade the DeepSea I'll be happy anyway ;)
