Any love for the 5396-R?
I’m in dire need of a dress watch. But I want something that can also be dressed down. I also think I’m ready to start swimming up stream with my collection. I have a few milestones coming up over the next few years and i think I’d like to add a Patek sports watch and a dress watch to celebrate. Ive been looking at the 5396-R with the white dial and breguet numerals and it looks stunning. My local AD doesn’t have one to try on but said they’ve ordered one and should maybe be here this summer by the latest.
So I was just wondering with the TRF community thinks of this annual calendar? Anyone have any wrist shots? Do you find it to be a keeper? Photo taken from the web. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That is a beautiful watch. I tried that exact model on about two weeks ago. Ended up with the 5205r-010. But I really was impressed. Its important to see them in person.

Beautiful piece. My only niggle is the 24-hour indicator. It seems force into the gap, partly under the hands, partly cut out for the date window. I'd be fine with just a moonphase. But the Breguet numerals just about make up for it.

Yeah I agree. It seems a little forced. Looks like this on. A lot of their watches with this design. I think I could look past that. Will have to try it on for sure though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Agree with the 24 hour indicator comments, still my favorite PP AC.

Whats not to like? It's a gorgeous watch.
Value? Pricing? Better options for less money? Other watches can be better buys from Patek, especially second hand, but the 5396, especially if you are only buying new is a good one to go for. |

It's very nice and more conventional a dress piece than the 5205, Breguets send it over the top for me.

Beautiful! If you're looking for a dress watch with complications, I'd also look at the 3940 line (albeit they'll be used). That reference is pretty much perfect in every way.

I actually thought originally I wanted a 5205. But I 100% agree that the Breguets give it the advantage. Quote:
3940 is amazing. Would def have find a used one. Not sure it’s as casual though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As for the watch, I love it, but it's a teeeeeeny bit small for me. My favorite AC though (well, tied with the 5205r). |

When I tried on the 5396, I personally felt the breguet numbers made the face too busy. I prefer a Cleaner look.
But that's why they make different models. Everyone is entitled to their own eroneous opinion. ;. |

Beautiful watch, I personally love the 5396G which I feel would be easier dress down in white gold. For me it's the most balanced annual calender currently from Patek and the Breguet numerals give it a great touch

The 24 hr display should have been used for date! Then we have a winner

Thanks for starting this thread!
I to am starting to look for a Patek AC non-Nautilus that can also be dressed down. I think its between this and 5146 but want rose gold, brown strap and light colored dial so I think 5396 may be the winner. |

Nice watch. I never looked at it since I really liked the 5146R which I bought. You should take a look at this watch too. Excellent value to be had.
The 3940 is a classic. Probably one of the best watches ever made. Can’t go wrong with it. Here is my 5146R Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like that watch a lot. I didn’t even notice the subdial positioning close to center until trf made it evident awhile back when I asked about the WG slate breguet version.
Then I look at a much cheaper watch like the MUT Moon and how well they executed it (the sub dial) and wish the PP was as well because the finishing is certainly nicer on the 5396.

I started out thinking the 5146 might be the one to go for. But I’ve come to the conclusion I think the 5396 looks a little more modern and contemporary. It also seems to dress down a bit better. I think it’s the one for me. Quote:
I agree it’s a little busy in that area. Oh well! Quote:
There’s something about those breguet numbers that I love. But I’ve never found a dial with breguets that I didn’t love. Quote:

I tried this one on a couple of months ago but I think I am going to pull the trigger on a 5146 R. i was in the AD this morning and they are offering a very good discount.

Beautiful picture. Mind if I ask the discount you were able to acquire? I have a good relationship with my Patek dealer but I haven’t asked about pricing just yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why not the 5140's or the 5327?
If you like the Breguet numbers, then you should LOVE the 5327R, with cream dial. And if you like the 3940 (which is impossible to find "new"), then why not the 5140R, which would be a lot easier to find new, than a 3940? Or how about my absolute favorite, the 5550P? There's still a few of those available as "new" out there.

All beautiful watches and great suggestions. I’m not entirely sure I’m ready for a perpetual. Although I suppose for the right price it could be an option. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Love the 5396. The white gold version is, imo, the nicest AC Patek makes. Beautiful.
