Rolex 5513 Bart Simpson

Just before i buy this Rolex 5513, i would like to get confirmation from the forum that the watch has the "Bart Simpson" dial? Serial number is 1.3mil and date on the inside of the case back is I/66. Bezel is service replacement. You comment is highly appreciated. Thanks.

You better pass on this one and you can send me a fruit basket for saving your AS*..

Relumed and revarnished. The fraudster taped off the gilt text and sprayed the entire dial before reluming.

That is why you see a "BOX" effect around the print and the rest of the dial is darker.

This is a pass in the highest order. I would rather see a busted up dial than a re-lacquered and re-lumed one.

Very interesting. Never seen the taped text before. Scary shit.

On-topic: Yes it is a bart.

I was looking at the print areas and actually thought that they were water slide transfers.

Is this a known or commercial seller, or private?

Glad the OP dodged a bullet, great education/example for everyone of what to avoid.

I don't see anything wrong with relumed and re-varnished (especially re-varnished) as long as it's disclosed and the fact of it is included in the price. Any dial repair that involves soldering on the back of the dial (reattaching a dial peg/foot, for instance) can potentially damage the original varnish on the front, and then a re-varnish would be a perfectly normal part of a repair. The re-lume seems to have been done quite well.

No but old Radium glow briefly.
Relume doesn't glow at all or glow very intense

I see this one has surfaced again. This was originally sold by a local dealer in Singapore with a different insert than the one in the OP's post for approximately 12.5k USD early this year. I do not think it has been re-varnished like has been suggested; it was however relumed in Vietnam. Dealer pictures will tell more of the story.

Unfortunately, such altered/enhanced pieces have become increasingly commonplace and accessible in South East Asia. There was also a 6262 recently that had an 'enhanced' v72 donor movement made to look just like a genuine Rolex 727. More than ever, it pays to do due diligence.

Then how do you explain the "boxes" around the script?

Bad dial

The depth rating and submariner prints are incorrect. They are reprinted (badly) on top of the paint. The original gilt prints should be below the black paint and lacquer surface.

Interesting conclusions

Photos do not show much depth to tell for certain but they do look above the layer and not below it ; )

What a travesty of a mockery of a sham, this watch is.

I sure wish OP would circulate the sales link.

The watch in question was shown to me and after careful inspection the script writing is below the black paint. It clearly shows the the whole dial was recoated except for the script on top and below. I think they used a deluted and slightly tinted clear coat which explains the reddish brown color of the dial. The relume of the hour plots are not flat.

Honestly the watch can fool an unsuspecting buyer who will not go the extra mile to inspect the watch throughly.

I also believe this is the same watch being sold by a Singapore watch dealer on ebay. I don't know how it ended up with a dealer here in the Philippines.

The watch has been worked over like a Waring blender...like many of the vintage Subs being offered for sale. Nothing new since this has been going on for years.
