That dial is incredible! I need to go find one to have a look in person... my only problem is I'm sure I won't want to leave without it!

It’s worth the risk, and the purchase!

That would be the hope! I’m still working up to that (probable) inevitability. Although , can one have two favorites, like children??

Stunning piece. Congrats. Out of curiosity, did you at any point consider a Lange 1815 Chrono?

Congratulations Stephen:thumbs:
May I add that you take a cracking photo, which in this case shows of the dial beautifully

Though, I am not a diamond on a watch chap, in this case, as with the 2 Nautilus models, it works a treat.

Thank you! I did not consider the Lange. I am partial to Patek and Rolex. And the 5170p was a watch I had hoped would be released for the past several years, so it was an easy decision for me.

Thanks very much! Good light, iPhone X, and an easy subject. Nothing to do with my skills!

Even though your pictures are the bomb, the watch just got better in person for me. The one I tried on at an AD was on a matte black strap, and wow, it's a piece I could see myself wearing everywhere. Spent well over 40 minutes with it, and it was truly a piece I didn't want to leave the AD without. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of budget at the moment, or would require selling a kidney or two.

Thanks for sharing the picture. Do you happen to have any additional pictures showing more of the matte black strap with the watch?

That is a very beautiful watch, but man that looks awfully big for you.

Not conclusive, Tom has a tendency to take too close in shots, my guess is they barely do in real life.

Haha you know me too well Neil. If I had a nickel everytime "X is too big for you" over my short tenure around here, well, I could afford a 5170P. In person they don't overhang the wrist, but because they don't curve down, they also result in a less than ideal fit compared to pieces with curved down lugs (e.g. the 5905P).

Stephen, the watch sure looks beautiful from the photos you posted. I am meeting the local AD tomorrow to look at the watch.
Can you let me know whether you have worn this watch with casual dressings, such as jeans and polos?

I have, although no photos to post. I’m of the opinion that wear it when you want, and who cares what others think. The watch is beautiful. With the shiny black strap that comes on the watch, it certainly dresses it up a bit, so if that’s at all a concern, it’s an easy switch to a matte black or matte blue. One of our other members already switched his to a matte blue strap, and it really looks fantastic. Pictures of this strap change are in the Patek sub forum. Buy it, wear it, enjoy it!

For sure, Jermyn St is not the be all and end all, Costco t-shirts can't diminish a fine watch.

Love the photo, it keeps looking better and better.

Finally a version of the 5170 which truly fulfills its potential, and even gives the 5070p a run for its money.

Stephen, many thanks. From where I live, dressing down is the norm and your advise on changing the straps really helps.

The one I tried on at a Hong Kong AD was on a matte black strap. I happened to be in jeans a t-shirt at the time. Looked great in the mirror and very fitting, when in contrast, the 5170G with a glossy black looked completely out of place.

Get it, put it on the matte straps and enjoy.

I have to say, the diamonds are bothering me less - which was the main issue holding me back. I wonder if it would work with a brown strap...
