The New GS 4 seasons - a trip to my AD

Went down to my AD today. Would say the 4 seasons collection is all great. The SBGA 413 is probably the nicest but I got swept away by the SBGY003

I loved those GS pieces. I read dollar for dollar, the GS is a better value than Rolex. It’s fit and finishing is far better than Rolex. It’s the brand prestige that makes Rolex demand higher prices.

Do you plan on swapping the strap on the SBY003?

Don’t forget their movement is superior to Rolex.

That may or may not be so but I’m not sure if this watch can support the price in Oz?

Reference number SBGY003; Steel; Manual winding; Condition New; Year 2019.
Price Au$13,120.00.

Btw, I’m not sure if the pr works for me via the rear window.

FYI I have 7 Seikos so I am not ‘anti’.

Yes probably. I like to wear the dress watches more casual. That movement is really special and without the GS stamp on the glass it is all the more visible.

Unfortunately by the time I was done taking pics and pulling trigger on the ones I wanted my wife and kids were around so I ended up paying for a few pieces and I'll come back later in the week to get them. More pics to follow.

Coop - I didn't take many more movement photos, I did take more videos on instragram...

My opinion is they each have their place. I would take a Rolex Submariner and Daytona (vintage probably) before any GS. After those 2 anchor points in collection, I would take GS over Rolex especially for a strap watch. You cannot go wrong with a titanium snowflake or GS for the sheer comfort and the dials.

Rolex has sheer toughness, their bracelets are amazing, and the fit and design of the Sub and Daytona are really on point - unbeatable really when combined with the brand and "how it makes you feel".

Dial-work and case polish/finishing and movement finishing, GS is really high up there. My opinion is if you have the funds, get a snowflake or TI on a bracelet and get a nice one on a strap. The snowflake imho is the best watch to travel with and is my "Rolex explorer" if you know what I mean.

OZ= Austrailia
PR= power reserve (Some Grand Seiko manual winds have the power reserve indicator on the display back (which I like the idea of, actually).

What bothers me most about Seiko and Grand Seiko...is the OP listed some reference numbers and I have no idea which is which...Absolutely bonkers. I can't keep up. I always need to copy the ref and put it in a google search...

I do the Google thing myself, but it does get easier to remember once you know a few popular models' ref numbers and generally know what the alphabet numbers correspond to in terms of movement type.
  • SBGA211 = Snowflake, Spring Drive
  • SBGA###= Spring Drive movement
  • SBGE### = Spring Drive w/ GMT
  • SBGY### = Spring Drive with power reserve on back
  • SBGH### = Hi Beat movement
  • SBGJ### = Hi Beat w/ GMT
  • SBGM### = Automatic or Automatic w/ GMT
  • SBGK### = Automatic with Small Seconds, Manual Wind
  • SBGN### = 9F Quartz w/ GMT
  • SBGX/V### = 9F Quartz
  • SBGC### = Chronograph, Spring Drive w/ GMT

I’m dying to get my hands on the Summer/Green one. I believe the reference is SBGH271. Only seen pictures, but if the dial is anything close... I think I’ll be in love!

if you've only seen pictures.. prepare to be blown away... I saw them in real life for the first time afew days ago, I expected to love Spring... and I did... but Summer !! WOW! the green (a complex living green due to the texture on the dial) against the gold accents... Completely floored me!!

Winter was a big surprise too!

I'm loving the blue dial SBGH273. Unfortunately with these being US boutique exclusives, we won't be able to see these in Australian boutiques.

Yeah I'm hesitant to criticise them without seeing them in the metal but the blue looks OK. I think I'd prefer other recent LEs like the kirazuri SBGA387 or brown dial SBGR311 or blue dial SBGH267 over these.

The Sydney boutique is always an interesting experience... All my modern Seikos just happen to be foreign LEs. I use them to justify not buying anything when I'm in there, yet they've never seen me wear them. Maybe one day...
