Stolen Hulk in Spain

Hey fellas! A buddy of mine was in Valencia about a week ago and got mugged by two lowlifes and they snatched his 116610LV. He sent me a picture of his card with the serial number. Anyone come across it know it's a stolen watch. Don't think there's much hope on getting it back as he returned to the states but I figured I do him a favor & post it here for him. I always dismiss & joke about all the "is it safe to take my Rolex to..." posts then crap like this happens to good people.

Sorry if an obvious comment
Has he registered it stolen at RSC
One of my friends partner got theirs back after being stolen and sent for a service 5 years later!

He told me he did sent a form Rolex provided him along with the police report. But he has very low hopes.

Edit your post to include the 64Z4S075 serial so it will be picked up by search engines to be found in the future.

Darn! I had no clue about that. Thanks! Unfortunately I can't edit the post. Also my apologies to the mods for posting on the incorrect place!

Everybody seems to downplay the risk of theft from person of valuable watches until it happens to them or a close friend. With the black market on Rolexes so well defined and profitable, it is a growing beast demanding more and more watches. Where they ultimately end up is anybody's guest.

This is why insurance matters. You don’t need it, until you do.

There was an interview here with a police officer after they busted a couple of gangs robbing people for watches. He said that they end up in Russia and southeast Asia.

Not really. Street crime committed by Russians or Asians is extremely low in the EU. These end up somewhere else.

Stolen Hulk in Spain

The victim did the right thing by filing a report with the RSC after he had advised the police. If the authorities don’t capture the crooks soon after the crime, recovery hinges on several factors. Rolex recovers several each month.

The path to recovery requires the watch passing through the underworld (who are smart enough to never send it to the RSC)until it emerges into the hands of an unwitting owner.

Then that unwitting owner (or another one later) would have to send/take it to the RSC for service. Slimmer chance than catching the thieves with it on them - but it happens...one of my wife’s Rolexes was recovered by police a couple of weeks after a burglary when the burglar was stopped by police. The other 3 stolen Rolexes are still out there but RSC has my reports.

Let your buddy know to keep a file with his documentation, Rolex warranty card, receipts (if he has any) and contemporary pictures of the watch (digital pics have EXIF data that can help, too). He will want to establish when he bought it, where he bought it, and any evidence of continued ownership like service bills.

In the event RSC snags it, there is a secondary process he must navigate to recover it. Remember, the unwitting owner will likely mount a case for his continued possession. Rolex Legal turns it over to the authorities that filed the police report. That starts the secondary process.

It’s easier if the police nab these thugs soon and find the watch on them. I hope that happens like it did with one of the Rolexes in my case. Much luck to him...

The robberies were not committed by Asians or Russians, but the watches they stole were traced to Russia and southeast Asia. Two completely different things.

He got it from an AD before all the craziness years ago. Told me he jus had it serviced a few months ago too. In my opinion that might help if the watch ever makes it back to RSC. Card is on his name, service too but he really doesn't think he will see it again. Shame to because that was the first & only Rolex he ever got after making a bit of profits on his business.... Sad indeed

+1

I've gone even more modest than that with a Seiko Jumbo 6138-3002.

My modest travel watch is a 5164R or 116655. Both insured for an amount larger than the grey market price (as it has dropped)

@OP: Should write here:
Serial 64Z4S075
Watch model 116610LV

This gets picked up as said before by search engines so when someone types in that serial number it will pop up with this thread. And whoever sits out there and watches this thread from far would know this watch is hotter than lava.

For your friend to recover the watch... No chance. Only option is that it pops into an RSC (as mentioned also before) and then ends up in his hands again.
