Icon5 What do you think about trading a GMT 116710BLNR & Sub 116610LV for a Daytona 16520 ?

Just curious for some opinions.

What do you think about trading a GMT 116710BLNR and Sub 116610LV for a Daytona 16520 (A-serial) ?

Some other details...
* My collection includes a 16710 (w/ all inserts), 16610V, 16610LN, & 16713 Root Beer. All dark dials.
* The white dial 16520 is missing only the tags & calendar.
* The 16520 will need a service ASAP but everything else is fine.
* I don't own a Daytona and doubt one will be allocated by my ADs. Been waiting nearly 2 years now for a 116500.
* The Sub and GMT are fully complete. Paid MSRP for both.
* Pics below are random ones from google.

Thanks and happy new year.

I wouldnt do it but that's just an opinion based on my likes and not being a Daytona fan but since you have a couple other Subs including a Kermit I'd trade the Hulk but keep the Blnr being it's your only other 6 digit piece and one of the best out there.

No - 2 high flyers for one. I prefer ceramic on SS daytonas. If you have any omega / breitling etc I’d raise cash that way as you do need a daytona

Another no vote. That Daytona would have to come with free housekeeping for a few months to start to be worth it.

Seems like you’re giving a lot here. What’s the cash asking price on the 16520? Seems you could pretty easily sell the blnr and LV for over $25k usd combined which I assume I more than the 16520

A-serial (& P) 16520s in decent condition with box / papers are up to $24k plus Their prices jumped a bit since 2017. Granted, this is just from my online research of sales.

Yes, based on your current collection and how much I like the white dial 16520.

I knew a veteran TFR member would ask this.
A Zenith Daytona is definitely the more desirable watch for me. Plus, Iím not a fan of 6-digit cases. Still, the LV and BLNR is a lot to give up.

However, I wanted to still get opinions.

I think a lot of people here are 6 digit fans and don't understand what a Zenith Daytona is so you are asking an audience who aren't armed with the knowledge to answer your question.

Be cautious with the advice you're taking from this thread.

Yeah, it’s a watch that flies under the radar with most. Swiss Made dials only made for 2-ish years w/ that movement. Was about to buy one 2 years ago for $19k. Thought the price was too high then... ha.

What would your advice be then? Even if armed with the knowledge of the coveted Zenith Daytona, unless OP is a hard core collector, most would say no. A movement doesn't make a watch. Even with practicality, a Sub and/ or GMT is way more useful. I got rid of all my chronographs for this reason. Who honestly uses it... really...

I wouldn't do it OP.

I wouldn't do it OP.
I have quite a few watches including BLNR, SubC, Explorer and DSOTM. If you want to be sensible and only have features you would use then the Explorer is the no brainer, no other watches needed.

I only use the bezel on my SubC to time calls, check parking meters etc. The only complication I use on my BLNR for the date, never for the GMT, as my Sub doesn't have a date.

We're talking Rolex here, not G-Shock. The use of the complication is nearly always irrelevant. Never using the chronograph is no reason not to buy a Daytona.

As for my opinion? As irrelevant as the chronograph complication, it isn't my money. I was just cautioning the OP as to how much the 6 digit watches are obsessively loved here so a rational view isn't one they'll get from the audience here. The opinion of Ken/Highlander would be one I would be interested in here as he has all the watches mentioned and is an extremely seasoned collector whose opinion will hold weight.

Agree 100%. I dislike Daytonas (all of them) but I wouldn't take the crowds advice here on this one.

I think you both are under crediting the TRF community. Itís a Rolex and there are plenty of members here (myself included) that are very familiar with 5 digits including the 16520

That’s not true. It’s simply a bad trade. OP asked for opinions and that’s what he’s getting. The zenith Daytonas are over hyped IMO due to the internet. They’re not the next PND some would hope. I’d trade one watch (hulk) Plus cash if it were me but not both. That’s a recipe for regret down the road.

Zenith Daytona's are over hyped? What about the Hulk and BLNR - not over hyped?

There is no next PMD. The Zenith Daytona has always been hyped and always traded at a premium. Why is now or the future going to be different?

FWIW I would trade the Hulk and cash too but that's because I hate the Hulk.

Personally, I’d do the trade. Especially given your current collection. It fits. And seems that you prefer the 5 digit references. Also the Zenith Daytona is definitely a collectible and full sets in amazing condition and just going up and will continue to $ wise.

I’ll be the voice of reason - there is NOTHING special about the LVc or BLNR - unless you “love” all of the hype. That’s it.

Just for debate’s sake since this is an interesting question from the OP:

Zenith Daytonas sat in ADs early in their introduction?
I believe at least the LVc is the first ever green dial SS Professional Rolex?
The BLNR is not just Rolex’s but the world’s first watch with a bi-color ceramic bezel.

The only reason Zenith Daytonas (stainless) sat at ADs is because the ADs Ďsatí on them and wouldnít sell them to just anyone. I remember it well.

True, however óMy LVc sat in the case at my AD for over a year before I bought it.

True, the BLNR is the first big color ceramic bezel....so what? Both the LVc and the BLNR are still in production.

If it were me (and itís not, 100% what you want) That doesnít seem like a good trade. If itís that special to you will you wear it, more than the other two combined? Does it matter more to you to own it in general or as a collector piece? If not then sell one and add cash. The Hulk is great and so is the BLNR, but in that deal I would let the Hulk go.

It all depends. If you really like the Daytona then go for it, if you like your current watches then don't
