Thinking about spending some serious $$ on a vintage Sub...
I'm considering spending some hard earned cash on a vintage 5513 Sub - more than I've ever spent on a watch before. The seller is reputable and has been in business for a long time. The price is in range with other 5513's at other vintage dealers.
Before I break open my piggy bank, are there any general guidelines I should follow? What questions should I ask the seller? Should I take the watch to an independent watch shop to have its authenticity verified? Any/all suggestions are appreciated. |

If you want people to give you advice, post good photos here and indicate the asking price. There's no way that members can give you a full education in one paragraph. You say the seller is "reputable", some members might have other opinions, depending on who it is.
This site is a good start if you want to do your own research (although we don't even know what era 5513 you're considering): http://www.5513mattedial.com

Do your research so you know what is out there. 5513mattedial.com is a great place to start. Make sure you know what is important to you. You will save money if the watch has service parts but again, it depends what is important to you. Ask the seller if they can send you a video or a photo of the watch under UV light to see the tritium. |

If you’re in SF and thinking either Jacek at his new shop or Hqmilton, i think you will be in very safe hands. you might have a hard time finding an independent watch shop with more knowledge than some of the top vintage guys. When i bought my first vintage watch, jacek literally walked me through exactly what i need to look for and the subtle differences. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Depends on the watch shop. You’d be surprised (or, maybe not) how many watch shops don’t share the same breadth of knowledge that the enthusiasts here on this, and other forum do. The minutiae of insert marks, dial marks, lume authenticity, crown types, service parts, bracelet codes, etc. alone could lead to a lot of confusion. Best bet is to post some pictures here, and, yes, maybe identify the seller.

What everyone else said. There is tremendous knowledge on TRF. Take advantage of it before you spend your hard earned dollars. Post some pics and information. Well worth it.

Don’t worry about posting links to the watch, no one is going to steal it from you.

If it's listed by an established dealer, it's not a secret to people on this forum.
