Why Not Wear Them????????

So, I'm a retired LEO. My retirement gig is being a school bus driver. When I retired my health care for me, my wife, and our young son went bye bye. Got my CDL and all the endorsements. Work about 8 months a year, 4.5 hours a day. My wife works at the Middle School, and our son is going into the 5th grade in the same school system. Off Summers, weekends, holidays, etc.... Life is good, our schedules mirror one another. My job pays our health care with a bit of spending money left. A new driver was sitting with me before shift started and I noticed he was wearing a new Omega Constellation. Next day a Tudor, then a new Explorer. I usually wear a Swiss Army or a 6209 vintage Seiko. I started wearing my Air King, TT Date, Omega Speedmasters (Professional, and a MK II) and various others to work. This went on for awhile with me wearing more than a few different brands. The first day I wore the 6209 again he said, " You have all these nice watches, why are you wearing the Seiko?" Got me to thinking, I'm 62 years old!!! Why not wear them, I'm not going to wear them out!!! What say you????

Congrats on your retirement, just joined that group myself.

I've found I'm working around the house more and as a consequence I'm usually wearing a modded seiko. When I was working [from home] at a desk all day I'd tended to wear my more valuable watches.

It's just great having options AND the freedom to wear what you want, when you want.

Congrats. And good for you.

As I start to appreciate and care for humans less and less, I am all for it. Do what you will. Enjoy what you have. Embrace what is yours.

Why Not Wear Them????????

OMG!!! Wear THEM????

Are you crazy????????????????

You’ve been here long enough to know that a water spot will get on your crystal!!!!!

Dust will get into your clasp and make it break!!!!!!! And the scratches - did I mention the scratches???? Any plans to put Saran Wrap around the watch to protect it???

And the sunshine, oh the horror, your dial will fade!!!!!

Of course you can guess I’m in the wear them camp. And every hyperbole above has been the subject of at least one thread this year…

You mean like in public? With the door frames, and the roving bands of moped riding street gangs? Yeah, sure. Good luck with that.

I enjoy my cheapest watches just as much as my more expensive watches, Seiko 5 among them.

Those who look down their noses at Seiko, no nothing about Seiko.

I don't own as many Seiko watches as I should and given the current watch market, this would be a good time to add a couple.

Wear all your watches and enjoy them.

Yes, wear them. Also surprised that as a retired LEO your agency doesn't provide the ability to continue health care.

Our kids’ last bus driver was a retired lawyer, like me. He enjoyed yelling at kids and a school bus is the perfect vehicle (pun intended) for that. He used the wages to fund his one big trip a year. Bus driver going to Bora Bora? Hell yes,

Bottom line - do whatever the hell you want!

Wait a minute…. This sounds like the life advice of all the people you spent so many years arresting.

I couldn't agree more!!! The Seiko 5 is probably the best value right now. I have several vintage Seikos, and a couple of modern ones too.

I started a thread about this awhile ago. No need to rehash it now!! My pension was through the Public Employees Retirement System. If you were 60, or had 30 years in, you were eligible to purchase it, but it was very expensive and no cheaper than buying it privately. Families are excluded 100%!!!!

I absolutely love being a bus driver!!! I have so much fun with the kids. Several of our drivers were airline pilots, at least one attorney, and some very successful businessmen. I've kept the same route now for several years, I know the kids, their siblings, and mom and dad. For the end of the year gifts I gave all the kids a handwritten notes along with gift cards to our local ice cream store. I have an elementary route, and a middle school route. My kids are extremely well behaved and polite with eachother. Schools been out a week and I already miss them!!!

Are you driving for the Hudson School District? I raised my family in the Stow Monroe Falls area and lived in Hudson too. Well behaved kids and parents that are involved with the schools in the area.

And yes…. Wear the heck out of your watches.

^^^ this.

Yesterday to this morning it was Batman, then after lunch I dunno why, yet felt like changing to the Bvlgari Octo FS. Maybe the Dark Knight is for 'after-hours fun'?

Congratulations and you are asking yourself a great question! I wish you would have asked yourself years ago and came to this conclusion. Think of the years you could have enjoyed them even more! Wear the heck out of ALL your watches and don't consider what anyone else thinks as you have built a nice collection that needs to be enjoyed!

Bump again. Wear it because you enjoy it. Not because of the name on the dial.

Congrats on your retirement brother. I was retired from the FD 8 years ago and went back into LE as a retirement gig. Wear what you love. Every watch I have has some sort of personal story with it. They bring me great joy. As a fellow traveling man and current LEO I wish you the best.
