I enjoyed the Dawn Wall more. Free Solo was good, but not enough actual climbing until the end.

Really great film and quite the feat, I really enjoyed watching it and plan to catch it again on a bigger screen since I couldn't take it all in on the airplane.

Nope, this was debunked after the rumor went around when the movie came out. She was probably the worst part of the movie for me, I felt like she was hitching her wagon to him for personal reasons. That's how she came off to me, at least; I hope I'm wrong.

I have to agree with (almost) everyone, that Free Solo is a masterpiece of documentary work. I enjoyed Meru, as well. I can't imagine being Jimmy Chin, climbing with one of your best friends and having absolutely zero ways to help if something happened, I think that speaks volumes of his abilities as a filmmaker to keep his own composure throughout. Just phenomenal in all respects.

I loved the documentary but not the guy, who comes off as a spectacularly self-absorbed (and fantastically talented) twit. I hope time and the grace of God grant him the experience to be a little more humble and wise. But meanwhile records will probably continue to fall at the hands of this most gifted and bold of climbers.

I paid like 3-4 bucks from Amazon I think. Got hyped and didn’t want to wait for free.

I went and watched dawn wall last night and honestly as nice a guy as the climber is it is a complete snooze fest in comparison to free solo. I agree with others he’s a complete lunatic but that’s why I’m watching

Dawn wall: 2 climbers scale the most difficult section of el cap over 3 weeks with ropes and portaledges. Using ropes to skip back up to begin where they left off like a video game.

Free solo: a lunatic prodigy climbs a route of his choice up el cap from bottom to top in one run without any ropes or assistance.

Watched it with my daughter who loves bouldering and we sat in tense awe at what was unfolding even though we knew he made it.

This guy doesn't think like regular folks, he is wired differently, you can tell through his interactions with those close to him and his reaction to completing the climb.

I watched this a few days ago. I had to pause it at times, it was so intense. My hands and feet were sweating just watching it. Wild. Really enjoyed it.

I mean yes, looking at this from an office desk and saying "boy that guy has a great sense of adventure and knows how to truly live" makes sense on some level, but his truly living, is going to kill him eventually.

The whole thing reeks of winged-suit eventuality to me. The top 10 winged-suit flyers in 2015 are all dead now...

Who says he is going to die climbing rocks? Is that guaranteed? Could it kill him? sure. Does it have too? No. There are other free solo climbers who have done hundreds of climbs over decades and are still alive. None approaching what Alex has done but still daunting for pretty much everyone else breathing on this planet.

I have watched the documentary 8 times. Truly amazing what he has accomplished. One in a million, maybe one in a billion. One of the, if not THE greatest athletic feats ever accomplished. To not do it perfectly resulted in death.

Obviously free soloing is not for everyone and not even for 99% of the most accomplished climbers in the world.

I believe he is truly living and my hat is off to him. Anyone should be so lucky to be able to go through life and truly follow their bliss. As long as it doesn't harm others , who are we too judge.

By the way, I met and hung out with a guy for several hours who had summited Everest 8 times. I had tea with him at Gorak shep where I overnighted on my trek to Everest Base Camp. Fascinating guy. He said it is all about mitigating risk. He was acutely aware of the dangers/risks involved and the number of times he turned back and didn't summit exceeded the number of times he summited. Life is short. Enjoy whatever ride you're on and live it to the fullest.

In a word: Stellar!

He is definitely a freak of nature. Climbing for almost 4 hours with no ropes is just insane.

If you're remotely interested in this, do yourself a favor and watch it. Totally worth it!

Definitely not like the rest of us. What was cool was to learn of the years and years of preparation that went into it. He climbed that route countless times with ropes and fellow climbers and memorized every move he had to make until as he said it was second nature to him. Made copious notes and went over them for years. The MRI bit was interesting too.

I just watched “Free Solo” and I think it’s an amazing film. Alex Honnold’s climb of El Capitan is not only an astounding physical feat, but also a monumental mental feat. I kept thinking that once he started up the slab, there was no coming back down. Just going up. As a physician and also the parent of a daughter with autism, I’m almost certain he lies somewhere on the spectrum. I think some of the most interesting scenes involved his interpersonal relationships. A film worthy of the Oscar, that’s for sure.

Not a lot gives me anxiety but this movie did. I've climbed but never anything at this level. He's the best at what he does.

Regarding his GF, I feel like she was edited to look like a witch.

I watched the movie Man on Wire and thought THAT was amazing but nothing compares to Alex Honnold’s feat of free climbing El Cap. Sad to say he will probably end up dying by doing what he loves best but I have the utmost respect for anyone who lives life to the fullest.
