"Is that a ROLEX"???? ------> funny encounter

So I'm down the shore on vacation with my family and we are riding the rides on the boardwalk. I'm wearing my Sub-C as it's the perfect beach watch - no doubt.

I go to get on a kiddie roller coaster with my young daughter and the ride attendant stops in his tracks and goes "IS THAT A ROLEX"??????? He was a 17-18 year old young kid wearing big glasses and a uniform for the amusement park.

I say "that's a real good guess".....

He responds "man do you know what a total waste of money that is? it's worth nothing once you wear it!" NOTHING!

I laughed so hard.... man oh man. Young jedi has a lot to learn. I was expecting him to say "man thats cool" but he really made me laugh with that comment. Guess all you guys are screwed!

As a side note this Sub-C gets a LOT of comments and attention.... seems like everyone knows what it is. My 16570 Polar Dial Exp 2 got zero attention!

It really stands out on your tanned skin, more than usual.

Youth is wasted on the young. God I’m old.

In 4th grade my daughter says kids were drawing Rolexes on their wrists. When she asked if I had one and I said I do, in fact two, it was a big deal. I think she told her friends and they were very impressed.

I would have grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and walked him straight to his manager !

He’s an employee of the park , whether you don’t like someone’s watch , shoes or any part of their attire , you don’t yell out your opinion like a clown!

The kid is obviously ignorant. Also, quite rude and I would have told him so.

I would have given him my business card and said "When you're ready, you could trade me a Rolex Submariner for an Apple watch. You'll get something for nothing- it's a no brainer."

On the contrary, I just had a positive experience with a very young looking fella at a generic/chain jewellery store

I was in there enquiring about something else when he compliments me on my 116710LN.
“Awesome timepiece! Can I have a look??” “How’d you get one of those, you must have been on a waiting list!”

I suppose he must have an interest in watches working in that store, but it was nice that he didn’t tell me much money I’d wasted on it :-P

I would have just shrugged and dropped a cheeky comment along the lines of "stick to you 4.50 an hour job...One day you'll own something in the 4 figures".

No , I live in Australia where every one isn’t sue crazy !

grabbing him by the scruff of the neck is just figuratively , meaning I wouldn’t let him get away with it

Everyone has to start somewhere, don’t be so ignorant or obnoxious of people working in what you may deem “lower class” jobs.

The one thing people who can't afford these luxury trinkets hold to is that they will tank in value, and when you tell an obnoxious one they actually go up in value you see them look at you like some country club, game-rigging, one percenter, and you see the light die in their eyes, it's rather funny.
