Do Rolex have the worst case backs ever?

I have to say... Every time I see the case back of my Rolex watches I'm underwhelmed.

I realise the counter argument to this is that you don't see often. But a sign of manufacturing class, attention to detail, ARE the little touches you only notice on the rare occasions. My G-Wagon has them everywhere.

Anyone else feel like a Rolex crown, or a stamped "Rolex" nameplate would have added something to the aesthetic?

Or are you a party at the front, business at the rear, kinda watch owner?

Nope. I love the fact that they’re plain and unadorned. Rolex lets the product speak for itself, they don’t need fancy decorated case backs.

Have to agree Bas and no point whatsoever to change the case backs on any Rolex watches.

Do Rolex have the worst case backs ever?

It’s funny because I admit that a clear case back is an important feature when I look at watches from other brands.

However, when it comes to Rolex, it just doesn’t matter to me.

I guess I just consider a solid case back as an intrinsic attribute of Rolex watches and never really think about it.

Are we struggling to find meaningful threads?

It’s a case back.

Have Mona Lisa painted on it if that pushes your button.

I would much rather have this than sapphire and boring, poorly finished movement.

You need to understand that so many calibers out there behind sapphire are finished to a standard that isn’t very eye or loupe worthy, even in higher end brands. I would much rather the manufacture put a nice case back like on Rolex: well finished, minimal (no need to write the second testament back there) and that is ensuring high strength of the case.

No. Glad how they are. Glad they don’t resort to gimmicky nonsense at the back of the watch.

So a stamped Rolex crown would be a gimmick? OK.

Rolex case backs are also perfect for engraving.

You can always buy a DSSD or any SD or Milgauss if you want some fancy writing on the back. The DSSD has the most interesting one with the titanium center.

These are very solid and do what they have to do. You can engrave and have enough metal left to polish it all out again without compromising its function.

IMO the case backs are quite nice in their current sterile fashion. I like the brushed steel more when sweating than I do other finishes. There is no deep engraving with edges to irritate skin, and it doesn't feel quite as 'sticky' as some watches with larger clear case backs.

For that matter, the precision of the machining on their case back is quite pleasing. If you look at it under magnification, it's quite impressive just how uniform it is.

Now if they done that then you would have the case back crown alignment points endless threads, like the winding crown, rehaute alignments ones.
