AP ROO Ghost

Friends need your input I am in the market for AP15500 but the dealer is offering AP GHOST( ceramic grey) for retail MSRP. Worth it to go for it or wait for 15500 ? Thank you all

Short Answer: Do you want the Ghost? Then the answer is yes. Do you not want the Ghost? Then the answer is no.

The Ghost is a great watch...easily my favorite ROO (with caveat that I haven't seen the new 43mm models) and one of my favorite/fun watches in my collection. But if this isn't coming with a guarantee of a RO in a reasonable timeframe and you don't trust the AD, I'd be tremendously careful. If you genuinely like the Ghost, you have nothing to lose really as you're getting a great watch and you may be helping yourself towards an RO.

Also maybe do the math. If you think you're going to sell the Ghost, you'll get $25/$26k cash for it tops. The watch is super easy to get both at an AD and in the secondary market, and it's very easy to negotiate lower with a dealer than what you see on C24. So, you're likely going to lose $5k or more inclusive of sales tax, meaning the real cost of your RO is already around $27k/$28k. Who knows where the secondary ROs will be at the time your allocation comes.

BTW, I assume you're talking about a silver/black/anthracite RO. No way they will allocate you a blue dial for purchasing a Ghost.

If you can bundle it with the 15500 then I think is a good move. Now like an independent purchase I wouldn’t, I prefer the 44mm offshores plus I don’t like the pushers on the 42’s offshores.
All that doesn’t matter if you love the watch though

Good luck

I’d never spend that sort of money on any watch if I didn’t really like it and no where in your post do you say you really want it. The exception would be to get an almost unobtainable watch that’s value is so high over RRP it would more than offset any loss.

That said I tried on a ghost a couple of weeks ago and it’s a really nice watch.

I love the Ghost, talking about secondary values is pointless imo, especially before you even buy the watch. Who knows what will be desirable in 5-10 years when you’re considering selling.

Only 5 years ago US members of this forum were bragging about being able to get 20-30% off an AP. Today I’ve lost count of all the complaints that AP SAs won’t even accept their money.

The Ghost is not a hot item but it looks really good too. I would take it as bundle with 15500ST any color dial, make sure that you will get both at the same time.

You have your answer. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment and the only certainty is you're going to lose money and/or be stuck with a watch you don't enjoy. Both of those outcomes combined with you having no guarantee at all you'll get a RO.

Make them a true bundle where you get both at the same time...I'd have different advice to you and encourage you to move ahead.

You have to be flexible on a bundle but not let the AD run over you. I would tell them I buy this today but you give me your word that I will get the 15500 within a year. That’s a good bundle imho
I feel comfortable with a year but you set your own terms because you are the one that have to be comfortable with them

I wouldn't trust a bundle unless you're given the watches at the same time. A friend of mine had a US based AD go back on their word because "the market changed".

AP makes 40,000 total units per year, not 40,000 Royal Oaks per year.

Well you can speak for yourself. I bought my 5524r and my AD promise me a 116500 white dial within a year. He delivered in 10 months . I guess it depends with whom you are dealing with. My AD is a big one with various stores in the US but I know them and I know that they are trustworthy.
At the end all goes down to that old WIS saying “ you buy the seller not the watch”

Cheers

I really like the ghost and once discontinued soon I’m sure the market will appreciate it too.
Wouldn’t concern too much with that and just buy it if you enjoy it.

The Ghost checks a lot of boxes for me: lightweight titanium, smaller 42mm (for offshores at least), ceramic bezel. If you like it and get some assurance of a 15500ST then I wouldn’t hesitate.

AP ROO Ghost

Don’t get too hung up on secondary pricing, it’ll ruin the wearing experience massively.

If you like it, get it, otherwise just wait or buy what you actually want.

Reign, I’m starting a campaign to hire you to take photos for AP’s website. Your pictures here do SO MUCH MORE for this watch than what you can see on the AP site.

OP, you’re getting some good advice here. Bottom line if you don’t love it, move on. But this is a fabulous watch and I bought it thinking I would probably move it quickly. As I said it’s turned into one of my favorite watches. The ONLY thing I would change is I love so many straps on this one and wish it had a quick-change system. I’ve lost patience and blood trying to change my straps all the time :-)

just 3 years back I was able to get new roo on grey market for 18.5 K. Now even pre-owned watches are not coming at that price.

I have both the 15500st and The ghost. What I find out is that they have different utility in your watch collection.

The ghost= beach, summer look, alcohol friendly, less prone to scratches.

15500= nicer setting, hiding inside your suit, going out for a nice dinner ex alcohol, etc etc.

Two different watches. Don’t buy the ghost if you are just buying for the 15500. Buy it if you appreciate the watch.

One of the best ROO IMO

For me the ghost is roo to have. Been a fan of contrasting bezels. But at the end of the day if it doesn’t appeal to you. Pass on it.
