I'm planning on selling 2 watches worth nearly $40k to a trusted seller here
I'm considering selling 2 watches worth nearly 40k to a trusted seller, is it the norm to ship the watches without getting payment beforehand ?

Depends who you're selling to.

Personally I would not ship anything without prior payment, just like he will not send you a watch you want to buy without payment first.

I'd send a watch to any of the guys here I've bought from. And no, it is not the same thing as buying a watch on here - they are trusted sellers, I'm not. If I can trust them to send me a watch I've already given them the money for, then I can trust them to send me the money for a watch I've already given them.

I've sold a watch to a TS here and I was comfortable sending it and knowing the funds would come upon receipt and after inspection. But, I did the homework first. All went well.

If the seller is Thanh Do you have absolutely no worries. I've been dealing with Thanh for many years and there are many others here that will say the same thing. Check out the reference section as well you will see Takuya is as honest as they come and true gentleman.

I believe the warning is making sure he are dealing with the TRF TS, not some imposter posing as him.

Regardless of practice standards, do what you're comfortable with. Takuya wanted bank wire only so I bought from a different TS. I understand it's normal practice but I can't just pay 5 figures without any protection, despite the seller's reputation. Had another TS I dealt with before and he had no problem taking PayPal for our 5 figure transaction. I even called him to let him know it wasn't charging me the 3% fee so he could add it.

Which is the seller? Maybe some of us can tell you our experiences with that seller. edit. Takuya is very trusted. I would have no problem sending him the watches first. If he feels you represented the watches as described he will send you the money agreed upon.

I've bought 2 watches (Rolex and Tudor) from Thanh and can vouch for him without reservation. One was F2F and he wouldn't even count the 63 $100s I gave him until I made him.
Think about it - if I were him, I'd want to authenticate $40K worth of watches before sending that much unless I knew the person. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

If it's the real deal Takuya I would have no hesitations. I've sent Thanh plenty of pieces before getting payment and I've received tracking or even pieces before I even have the chance to hit the bank.
Things do happen so I always suggest making sure your package is insured via a 3partg insurance company. I ship everything insured with parcel pro. |

It seems that if you are selling a watch payment is made before the watch is shipped.
If this seller wants to buy watches he should pay first just as he expects to be. Unless he is prepared to send me some watches before payment is made just to even things up. He may be a trusted seller but he is no better than most of us on TRF.

I literally just finished a deal with Thanh, AKA Takuya, just now. All done over email. Traded two watches for a BNIB BLNR. Sent him the two watches beforehand and he overnighted the BLNR same day he received my watches. Key takeaway is trusted seller. I wouldn't do it with just anybody obviously but the whole point of a site like this is being able to do things that fall outside the "norm". Normally yes you would expect payment beforehand but you're not the "seller" in the traditional sense. You're not selling to another end party but a "middleman" who will then resell. It's not unreasonable for them to inspect before payment. It only works within the framework of a community like this though.

I wouldn't pay someone until I saw the goods. Standard practice here. Thanh is the man and I've sent him plenty before hand
