I swear someone could make a million dollars by producing longer hands in white gold for the 39mm Explorer I and changing them over for a total price of $100 plus shipping. I know I would pay it in a heartbeat.

Although i am 100% with you on the shorts hands issue i doubt this post will go anywhere.

The short hands issue on the 39mm exp I has been debated over and over again.

The hands don't bother me so much. I have an Omega Seamaster and the hands don't cover the indices, so each time I have seen a new 39 Explorer in the flesh at the AD, I have never even noticed. I can understand though why Rolex owners would be upset that the hands are now shorter, considering they made a change. Or rather, didn't, and just slapped on the hands they use for other watches? In any case, I think that the matte dial is stunning. If it were up to me, I'd have made a 39 mm Explorer with longer hands, a matte dial, and 3,6,9 lume markers like the 1016.

OK, let's make it a lume topic, if the OP wouldn't mind a digression. The 3, 6 and 9 never had lume, just white lacquer or something, and now there's not even that. Totally changes the look in the daytime while the same look in the dark is being maintained. Strange decision to leave those numbers blank. Takes away from the "Explorer Look," IMO, in the daytime anyway.

Just buy the -ORIGINAL- 39mm Exp... the MkII Vantage. Meant as a 1016 homage, it has lumed 3,6,9 - massive hands, and matte dial.

the last explorer replaced by short hands, the 114270 didn't have lume at 3 6 9 only white ~lacquer... i think this worked fine and kept the look true to its heritage.

is it the lume that you miss or is it the 3 6 9 white cohesiveness of the dial, now gone on the new 214270?

after initial impression of the 214270 has worn off, i not only miss the white numerals, i also miss the original dial layout not to mention the wee bitty hands. (oops i mentioned them)

Are there any aftermarket hands that are longer and wider? The 36mm minute hand length is 12.5mm i believe so we are looking at 13.5-15mm for our 39mm. Anyone know the dimensions of the hand holes and where we can buy a set to test?

Strange after all these years no one has made any longer hands since it caused such a stir lols.
