Sub-C on Leather?

Its been pretty hot here the last couple of days and I found myself getting a rash on my wrist from my watch. I think I'm allergic to nickel, and from what I've read sweat causes some of the nickel in the 904L to be released (hence why I've had no problems in the cooler months). I'm thinking of getting a rubber strap for the hottest days of the summer but in the meantime I dug up a leather one that I had lying around and tried that...

I always felt like the Rolex sport models generally look better on Oyster, and divers especially don't fit well on leather but I actually kinda like how it looks! The maxi case matches the ruggedness of the leather pretty well IMO.

What do you guys think?

tbh, i always liked the pre-c subs on leather.

imo, the sub-c is too shiny for the rugged/vintage look leather offers.

just my ¢2

Not really to my taste. Try nylon. I like non-professional models on leather.

I'm impressed you guys got such thick straps on without having them get torn up by the case. I see what looks like a little wear at the closest point, but not the outright mangling I'd have expected from such burly straps.

After trying my GMT on a suede strap last night, I have concluded (to myself personally) that I like the bracelet on a rolex as it completes / complements the watch that much better.

I might hunt / seek out different straps to change my mind but so far I learned that a significant part of the rolex attraction and appeal for me IS the bracelet itself.

But I can definitely appreciate a great looking leather strap in its own right.

If not on Oyster bracelet, rubber would by next option for a Sub. Leather is not my cup of tea.

Dive watches on leather make no sense to me, but to each their own.

That looks great. I definitely think you should try rubber (rubber b or everest).

I guess you do what you have to in order to get by. I have a similar problem with the bracelet on my 14060m. A small, red, itchy rash develops on my wrist when I wear that watch. I premedicate by applying a small dab of triamcinolone 0.1% cream before I strap the watch on, then I'm good to go. I rotate watches pretty frequently so a little 15gm tube lasts a long time, and I only have this reaction with the Sub bracelet. Nice watch!

X2, and to be honest I've tried my 16610 on leather many times and couldn't get it to work right. Love when I see the vintage models on leather though. Probably doesn't make sense

I don't like the C's on leather or strap, 5 digit and they look great.

I'll always prefer bracelet on the newer models but that does look good.

That looks really good! got me thinking now whether the RubberB is what i need or this! where did you get that strap from and are you able to use the glidelock clasp with it or is it a normal pin buckle?

I like the look of the watch, OP, and think the Sub works well on leather. However, I think Subs work best with leather that matches the face--4 digits with patina on rugged/suede straps; 5/6 digits on smooth black calf or gator.

I would wear a SubC so as not to have to worry about getting it wet while washing hands, washing car, watering plants, taking a dip in the pool, etc. Leather would defeat that purpose because I wouldn't want to ruin a leather strap.

1. Rubber
2. Sailcloth
3. Metal Bracelet
4. Leather
5. Nato

In fact I would rarely if ever take it off the rubber or sailcloth in order to preserve the bracelet's condition.

The maxi-lugs and shininess of the bezel look weird when paired with leather.

I'd go back to bracelet.

I won't lie, when I saw the caption of this thread I clicked on it ready to throw flames... BUT it actually does look nice!

Of course I prefer the bracelet, but this is a good alternative.
