That article is from November 2013, and is simply brilliant in terms of understanding why Rolex are so much more than just purveyors of wrist jewelry, and still phenomenal innovators & manufacturers committed to cutting-edge research & design, despite their somewhat conservative image.

As well as Hodinkee's Ben Clymer, three others were allowed on that rare visit: James Dowling of Timezone.com, Ariel Adams of ABlogToWatch and Jake Ehrlich of RolexMagazine.com.

If you enjoyed the Hodinkee's write-up (it's the best in my opnion), it's maybe worth reading the other accounts too for a fuller flavor of the visit - same photos and perspective, but each has their own take:

I was going to say, this article is certainly old. Ben has the white ceramic Daytona while the beginning of the article says his youngest Rolex is from '76.

This gives me a newfound and deeper appreciation for Rolex. They are simply unparalleled.

I wonder why it is that the author made such a fuss about being a vintage Rolex snob, though?

Additionally, the next time a five digit fanatic writes that the Parachrom Spring is marketing nonsense only I'm going to link this thread. ; )

Myself also when I was able. The pic that's out there of Nicklaus,Palmer and Jackie Stewart in the "Rolex" white lab coats touring one of the facilities is priceless. It could be Gary Player, I forget.

I've read this before and it was just as enjoyable the second time around as it was the first time.
