I was told that they had gotten one last week but it was sold immediately. I countered by stating the obvious: Apparently, I wasn't on "the top of the list" for this watch. They said that I would be "next" to get the call but that it may be a while.
Disappointed and frustrated, I called a jewelry store (Rolex AD) in a large mall 30 miles from my home. I asked if they thought they would ever get the new Sea-Dweller. The woman I was talking to said that they've had one sitting their display case for three days. Figuring that this was the old Sea-Dweller (that is getting harder to find), I politely asked her to get the watch in hand and read the reference number. "126600" was her answer.
I gave her my credit card number and told her it hide it in the back. I picked it up yesterday and...wow.
For those who own the SD43, you know.
For those that haven't had the pleasure:
It's not too big. It's not thick. I like the cyclops. The proportions of the band are perfect as is the clasp. The GlideLock clasp, while not quite as convenient as the one on the DSSD, works very well.
The watch fits well on my wrist (6.75) and is very comfortable. It's a stunning watch.
Pictures to come (or it didn't happen).
Thanks for reading.
Dave

That was excellent news for you!

But terrible news for those who paid over retail for this reference....soon to be filling up display cases to the brim at your local AD...except for the UK of course..

i agree. The grey market is very bubbly right now for this and its going to pop very soon when the first wave of buyers passes. This is no Daytona, even in the UK. It will still be hard to find sitting in an AD in the UK, but not Daytona hard and readily available everywhere else.

This watch has really grown on me since the release at Basel. Totally cool. May be in the minority, but I would rock this all day with a suit.

Congrats. Looks good on you.
I get a little satisfaction when I hear an AD loses a sale because they played games with their customers. You can only abuse buyers to a point before some rebel.

Sitting in the display case? Wow. My AD keeps high demand models in the safe. It will be interesting to see how these new SD43s are allocated.

Thats the problem right there with deposits. There is no incentive to get you yours first when they can sell the watch to someone else immediately and still have you on the hook for one. My guess is you wouldn't get the call until the watch went unsold for a day or two in the display case at which point the AD goes to the list. Maybe not true for the Daytona, but with the SD, which is no where near as hot, it sounds about right.
Congrats!!!

No deposit BS for me neither, once they get your money they simply kickback and sell the watches to whoever showed up...Until one day they can't move those watches quick enough.

Excellent news for sure. Anyone who paid over retail had to know that they were paying a premium to have it fast and that the value wouldn't hold.

congrats, my local AD has 2 coming in the next week or so and i already paid for one of them, he said many have called but they dont want to put a deposit! Probably for the reason you just explained. In any case, the grey mkt price is insane and still sits at around 13K or so for a watch that more than likely will not be limited. I think paying retail is fair and in a couple of years it should hold its value, perhaps a little lower than retail, but I doubt it will be anywhere near 13K, or north of that.

Tried one on at my local AD today, didn't think they would have one in stock but they did. Don't buy it though, just needed part for a different watch
