Icon20 The Official TRF Sky-Dweller Owners Club

In keeping spirit with the DateJust, Submariner, DSSD, Presidents, YM, etc. owners clubs on TRF I have decided to start this club/thread.

As a Rolex enthusiast and collector I must admit that I was ECSTATIC when I initially heard rumors that Rolex was planning on introducing a new complication! I couldn't wait to see the unveil at Basel 2012! From the Basel unveil we all came to realize that the Sky-Dweller has a bitter sweet design that you either hate or love! Aesthetics aside collectors must draw conclusions that the first Rolex annual calander from our beloved company is one to be reckoned with! I am definitely intrigued to see what the company has in store for us in the future... Could this be a segway into creating a perpetual calander? Minute Repeater (most likely not)? Only one can dream and ponder

I aquired both the WG and RG versions....

At the end of the day reference 326135 was the one that made me scream and say... THIS IS IT!

My local time has been set to NY and reference time to Cairo, Egypt

I am inclined to say that as more folks see the piece in person they too will enjoy what Rolex has done in taking steps to enter the realm of Patek and Vacheron.

Nice one, Sam!

Somehow I doubt this club thread will go on for pages and pages and pages, if only because of the membership fees. But, I totally agree with you that with time, the SkyD admirers will grow and grow.

Hmmmmm....that gives me an idea! Maybe I'll start "The Official TRF Sky-Dweller Admirers Club". Hey, at least it's a club I can join right away!

In all seriousness, that was a great thread opening post Sam! I love your reference and I hope to see more pictures from different owners soon enough!

Wow. I'm torn between getting the WG or RG. I guess you solved that problem. Out of curiosity if you had to pick just one to keep which one would it be?

Just to add a slight bit of negativity to this thread, as I said somewhere else, the Skydweller is just not my cuppa. Now, the YM-II, OTOH, is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. Probably my next grail.

My only regret is that James Bond wasn't wearing a SkyD in SkyFall...

But then in the latest incarnation of the Bond character, personal devices are old school i.e. no exploding pens!!!

However, perhaps when Rolex bring out a SkyD (I wish) in stainless steel Bond will re-evaluate his tastes and preferences.

I genuinely hope that ALL Rolex fans get to experience this annual calander, even if they don't acquire one it is still a fun piece to witness! As stated, I am hopeful for a Rolex perpetual calander in my lifetime... I will leave the Annual and Perpetual calander Patek's and Vacheron's for the big boys... I am just a kid that Rolex history...

Gents please let me clarify, I had to acquire both the WG and RG versions in order to complete my deal with my AD, however, after sitting and pondering which one to keep, went with the Rose version. I moved the WG to a friend/collector and fellow TRF member who rarely post ;-)

Having 2 different color combos to start the new SkyDweller Thread is really the most impressive part of your founding.

Spectacular, wear them both for many many years to come.

And Rolex should not need to enter the Minute Repeater arena, its value and place in horological history is complete. Grande sonnerie and the like are already in capable hands of Patek Phillipe and Vacheron and others known for their historical positions. For us this would be a foray best described as 'me-too' or 'coming late to the party'.

I hear you Jon on the Grande Sonnerie bit, the thought of a complicated Rolex timepiece has been a discussion my horology buddies and I have been having for YEARS so for us all (including yourself) to witness just a simple annual calander from the brand is just so sweet that I brought up in a private discussion... Why stop there? In all fairness I have handled some of those Patek and Vacheron pieces, however, those entry prices to play are just

Edit - In addition, I am unsure if you have ever witnessed a Christies or Sotheby's auction, however, the Italian and Asian collectors have already priced a kid like me out of the uber desireable Patek and Vacheron pieces by bidding these exclusive complications to stratospheric levels along with their Van Gogh and Matisse paintings! I do not mind "last" best with this Sky-Dweller

Here is a pic of the YG one that was reserved for me...

Did not consider that since I own the 116718...
