Which is your end game for Rolex?
I used to think owning a sea dweller or a sub is the end game for my Rolex hobby. I told myself I would be good with a masterpiece like sea dweller. Then I come here everyday, the more I read the more I think MAYBE add a hulk or a Daytona wouldn't be a bad idea. Now the game seems endless. The wish list just keeps on going.

My original route: explorer 1 -> sea dweller, period.
New route: explorer 1 -> sea dweller -> black Daytona C I tend to keep them all, no flipping. |

Well, as long as we're wishing, lets say a Paul Newman Daytona, a comex sub and the original Watch used by Sean Connery... ;-)
Seriusly, i'd be happy with a Daytona Ceramic either one is fine.... but I've got a lot to be thankful as far as I am concerned to be honest.... |

White gold Sub / Smurf
Having said that, it's in Nautilus price bracket - I'd get the PP. |

Oddly enough, I'd be torn between an explorer i & no date sub c. I'm not overly keen on shine/polish right now. Plus 40 mm is my max. And I hate babying what's on my wrist.
I look to higher end manufacturers for big ticket items. To me the exp i & no date sub are both very iconic pieces for Rolex. |

Maybe a better question than what's your grail, since that one watch may be more of a moving target than one's end game. After cycling through six models, I think it will be a yellow gold sports model. Probably a yg GMT black dial, keep my tt blue sub and add an over 40mm piece if I find one that moves me. I've enjoyed getting my wife watches, maybe more than myself. I've picked them all and she enjoys the hell out of it. For her- she's got a hulk, a ym blue dial, and a 34mm white dialed air king. I'm thinking a 36mm datejust on jubilee and at some point, a 36mm prez and she'd be done. No Daytona for her. Something to look forward to anyway.

I am contended and enjoying my collection right now. The end game for me would be when I am down to just one SS Rolex piece (when the other 2 are sold). Hopefully with God's help that would still be decades from now.

as long as rolex keep bringing new watches out at Basel I don't think there will be an end game rolex for me.
As of now I Rolex Day Date 40 would be my end game rolex but that would take me years to save up. |

Rolex haven't designed my end game....yet.
And when they do there will probably be none in stock in Oz.

No end game. Probably just move on to more expensive brands.

So - would "end-game" be your 'Grail' or would it be the last watch that you would buy to 'complete' a collection. For me, achieving my 'Grail' would not necessarily be the end of a collection because it would still be just one of several Rolex that I would really like to own.

I'm in the buy once, cry once camp so I went directly for the WG DD40. Was planning on adding a sub as a beater but I can't see wearing anything besides the DD40 (for now...)
A WG or Platinum sub, preferably with a black dial and bezel (or in very dark gray/slate) would make me change my mind very quickly, though. |
