Batman begins - finally got my BLNR

So, I live in Australia where SS Sports models are hard to come by, the BLNR especially so. I even had one AD laugh sympathetically when I asked about one.

About 9 months ago I booked a trip to the UK for a wedding I was best-man at, emailed the local AD in the city I was attending the wedding at and he put me on their waitlist. I explained a friend would pick it up for me anytime and also gave the dates I was visiting.

In the meantime I've contacted AD's all over Australia and the UK, some had closed their wait-lists and some wanted down payment just to be wait-listed. I was travelling to Singapore a few weeks ago, the AD there wanted me to pay 20% over list for one and a UK-based AD offered me a used one, also 20% over list.

I also visited Seattle for a conference in Jan, AD there had one but wanted full payment before I arrived to reserve it, in the end I missed that one.

So, last Friday, day before the wedding I was researching my speech and I get an email from the local AD in the UK "we might be getting a BLNR today and we remembered your email from 9 months ago saying you'd be in town", indeed I was, for 2 days and 3 hours later I had my BLNR, bonus as an overseas visitor I get sales tax back saving a fair chunk. I could sell it for a profit now I'm back in Aus (but I won't).

So, to sum up, my first Rolex has been a waiting game, but I'm all the happier now I have it.

Your perseverance paid off beautifully.

Did any of the Australian ADs say why that model was so hard to get? I got mine the day after I told my AD that I wanted one.

Well done!! It's hard to get a BLNR from a UK AD. It's even harder for tourists visiting the UK.

You did very well, enjoy!
