I personally think that the SS SkyD (Blue) is going to alleviate the pressure on Daytona demand and therefore pricing. Both of the ADs I deal with have said that their "lists" are unreal for this piece and don't think they will get many pieces if at all. For a 2k price difference and finally being able to get into the most complicated Rolex, people see the value and want in. Less demand for the Daytona should dampen prices a bit but I don't see it dropping below or even to MSRP anytime soon.

They did not. Until recently, I don't ever recall them going over MSRP. When they first came out many, many years ago, they could be had at a significant discount. You can thank Rolex marketing for the change.

I think so it's been a few years, like early 2000's. I think Msrp was like mid $6k, but were selling for $10k.

personally feel the rise in 116520 prices is also a result of the big move up in the broader vintage market in recent years, which has led to the market chasing the long discontinued 16520s and then the 116520s, and not only because of the introduction of the new daytonaC

given 1) prices mostly used 116520s on the rise given discontinued, and 2) rolex generally only adjusting prices upwards year on year, dont see bnib ss daytonac dropping to close to msrp in the secondary market

For it to happen I think Rolex will first have to increase MSRP.

If you look at 116520 and 116500 secondary pricing, they are getting very close to the same.

All I can see is the Rolex MRSP creeping up towards the price they are going for on the grey market, then they will be nearer in price with the grey dealers co,Manding £1000or so more to beat the waiting lists

In the 90's the 16520's were on a 2 year waitlist with AD's. That was my experience. It was suggested to me then that market would pay up to 2x retail.

I recall paying around $6k for each in 1996/98
