Need a RG Sky-Dweller Case Back
Does anyone know where I can purchase a case back for a RG Sky-Dweller?
A friend of mine had his watch sent to a repair shop and thanks to the inexperienced guy over there, they messed up the threads of the case back therefore, he needs a new one Rolex Boutique said they don't have the case back for sale and that the watch needs to be sent to Switzerland and it would take about 3 months to get it back?? |

Any RSC should be able to order the part and do the exchange after a close inspection of the case threads.

How does that sound even remotely believable?

What is wrong with this picture? Wouldn't it still be under warranty? If so why wasn't it sent to a RSC?

In 2007 I bought a new ss daytona and I wanted to get the case back engraved so tried to order a spare case back and Rolex would not sell me one.
I think the whole watch would have to go to Rolex and they would want to service it(as it had been opened and now no case back fitted) and would then offer an exchange case back.

I don't know why anyone find anythinf not believable, but like I said, although the watch was under warranty, this guy left the crown open and went swimming. The eatch had salt water in it.
Since the watch had water damage he knew it would not be covered under warranty. He acted cheap, thought it would cost a fortune if it is sent to Rolex and it would take too long, he took it to a local watch repair shop. I guess the guy did not have the correct tool to open the case back and as he was trying to open it, he messed up the threads. Rolex says it is not sold to customers and that it would take 3-4 months and 2100 CHF for the case back. That is why I am trying to find out if we can source it from another place |

AFAIK that wlll not let water inside the watch anyway. Even with the crown unscrewed the seals will prevent water from entering. |

IF there was water in it, wouldn't that be a bigger concern?
It's at the point of no return so i think it should go straight to RSC irrelevant of cost or time to fix. |

Water damage could be addressed by any watchmaker long as you get them to deal with it quickly.
But damage to the threads is no small damage. There might be a few who could offer re-threading but best to have it addressed by Rolex. If RSC says replacement is required, it will be very expensive considering its RG. |

It should be his responsibility to get it repaired.Does he have a Rolex parts account? FWIW the quote for a case back from Rolex seems cheap. If he doesn't have a parts account then he should pay someone who does to get it repaired correctly without your help.

Do you have any pictures on how bad it is? As pointed out above, it is gold and expensive to replace. Depending on how bad it is it should be repairable.
Places lite http://grayandsons.com/repairs can almost perform magic.

Need a RG Sky-Dweller Case Back
If the indy watchmaker borked the threads I wouldn't take a chance with anything but an RSC to fix it. I'd bite the bullet and contact the RSC in Dallas (not NYC - horror stories abound) and at least get a quote. If you can find another indy with great references like the above post offers, perhaps get a quote from them.

The local repair shop can submit the watch to RSC for correction. This way, the shop can be directly responsible for the repair and its associated costs

You should have your friend check the threads in the case also. Those could very well be damaged good luck fixing that. That might require a new case.

Open Rolex crown does not let water in when low pressure like swimming.
