It shouldn't but it does especially with the PP and AP bezels. I get even more careful than usual or will sometimes switch to less expensive watches based on the anticipated activities.

No

I am careful with everything that I own. Additionally the watches are insured and I have camera equipment that is far more expensive than some of my watches and I use them as well.

It is all about awareness

I’m no stranger to expensive watches and generally don’t fret about how I wear my watches relative their cost. Most would cringe to see what I wear when fishing, boating, motorcycling, hunting, golfing, etc. However the recent (insane) valuation of steel Pateks has begun to influence how I wear them. I’ve found myself worrying about scratches and dings on my steel Pateks whereas it was never a consideration before. I have no such hangups with my PM watches - only steel. Brand has little bearing on it. Maybe I’m just not meant to own steel? Thoughts?
Not sure why you felt that way Mike.....

Some of your PM cost more than your SS Patek.....

No matter if the value is sky rocket, I keep all watches with the love and the care it deserves....

In fact, I paid more for all of my PMs than my 5711. I think my issue is with the value being significantly higher than the retail. I have no qualms about beating up watches with values around retail. My enjoyment seems to decrease inversely to an increase in value.

For a regular production watch, I don't know if regular wear and tear makes a difference, whether the current resale value is higher than MSRP.

However for LE watches and discontinued watches produced in small numbers, I can see them being safe queens to preserve that "like new" or "mint" status for future resale.

Thomas my friend your watch box has more rare steel than Hatori Hanzo’s sword rack.

It probably comes from the psychology of knowing many people want it and can't have it, so a duty of care imposes itself; basically it means you have morals and are not a sociopath... which would not have been my diagnosis years ago when you were first terrorising, I mean enabling, us all with your PM watches.
