5711 vs 5712

Patek Lovers,

I was reading the thread on 5712 vs the pilot and it got me thinking...

The 5711 has appreciated to the point where I can see a dealer getting close to doing a one for one swap (maybe a little out of pocket for the 12)

The 5711 is a special piece but I just can’t fathom why one wouldn’t want to take advantage of this references’
spike.

What do you guys think?

I prefer the 5711. Never been a fan of the 5712 dial.

That’s what I am saying Neil! Personally I’d rather have the 12 or 11R but 11A is on fire.

id do that swap. IMO the 5712 is harder to get tired of as the dial is so much more interesting. If you are thinking of doing it, then its only a matter of time at this point, so do it while the market for the 5711 is at a high, which is now.

Ah sorry missed the last thread posing this question. My bad. I love the split decisions between the Patek faithful. Just goes to show how much these references mean to people. I would LOVE to trade to the 5711r but it just wouldn’t fly for business attire, way too flashy in solid gold. Does anyone know the retail price of 5712 at the moment? Does it trade well over that mark like the 5711. Reading posts of 20% increases now

I probably voted 5711, and there was a time (a year ago?) when I tried to like the 5712 so much (because it seemed more attainable) and couldn’t. Strangely enough, I think I now prefer the 5712.

I love the "controlled chaos" of the 5712, I really do. But if I had to pick one I'd still take the 5711 over it. "Less is more" -- I can't think of a better watch example than comparing these two models.

I must admit I initially loved 5711, then 5712, back to 5711 which I then purchased!! I love it but still think about the 5712

I did wonder how easy it would be to swap for a mint 5712 but presumed I would have to add cash

I'll take what I can get....no losers between the 2 but I think the 5711 has the edge in the timeless design.

I prefer the simplicity of the dial of the 5711.

I noticed in the for sale section of this forum that a yellow gold 5711 is going for roughly 58K USD, about the same price as some SS 5711's. Amazing.

Momentum has been stronger on the 5711 so it was always going to get close in price despite this forum's best efforts to support the 5712. With the 5164, these two PPs were largely in their simpler brother's shadow until recently.

I think dealer's are bidding much lower than they are asking so you'll probably need to add cash anyway.

Sorry for my endless questions in your 5711P. I really love that watch and there are so few videos out there, and I do not know of anyone who owns one.

Patek-Philippe-1.jpg

With respect to the 5711P cork box, are you able to describe the feel of that surface? It sure looks smooth in the pic. How does it smell? Is it light or heavy?

Thanks in advance for your answers
