He’s wearing his Sub in that photo, of course. There seems to be a lot of good research in that article, so surprising that it misses something so obvious!

Yeah, same photo and caption I saw in their "Big Watch book". Not the only error, BTW.

Here is the photo with the proclaimed Explorer II on his wrist - which is not an Explorer II but a Submariner.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

That’s his 5512, of course. Esquire is not the place I’d go for any watch advice/history.

It’s been many years and I wonder how many gen x and gen z know of him and if so do they really care. He was only an actor, who happened to do his own driving stunts.

GenX, like me, for sure. GenZ? Probably not so much.

I read somewhere McQueen actually owned a 1964 5513, possibly even the one pictured. My 5513 is a 1965, so cool we have the same watch. I think in the end his ended up even worse off than mine. Wasnt it destroyed in a house fire and restored?

And Churchill got the 100,000th of the just released in 1945 DateJust. Wonder if Eisenhower got the 99,999th or the 100,001 lol. So much BS. :)

For those educated in America Eisenhower was the American general commanding the D Day invasion of Europe in WW2 and later American President.

This McQueen photo was from the set of The Great Escape circa 1963. Therefore, his sub would have been pre 1963. For the record, I’m a millennial and I love Mcqeen’s work.

No its from the set of Papillon. You can tell by his make up, so around 1972-73

The article also states Sir Edmund Hillary wore a Rolex in his climb of Mt. Everest, something that is debatable.
