Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch
I’ve always been fascinated with the Speedmaster Moonwatch. Not sure why I’d never purchased one after all these years, but I just sold my Breitling Chronomat to fund this watch. Looking for a nice one. Can’t wait!
Still undecided if I want the Hesalite or Sapphire Sandwich.... |

Have you considered ref 3572.50? There are some great condition examples. The price is creeping up a bit but not crazy. You get a hesalite front and sapphire caseback - best of both worlds. It's a good reference to watch for on Ebay; they seem to get posted from Japan sellers.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch
Great decision buying the Moonwatch.
Whatever you chose between hesalite and sapphire make sure it is hesalite Jokes aside go and try both of them Also it is depending what you like more, seeing the movement or stay true to the original with hesalite and in the case you go to the moon with spacex you are already certified Good luck and we wait photos after you get it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Good decision!
Buy what you like.. I recently opted for the Sapphire sandwich and don’t regret it at all. It’s a beauty!

I prefer the Hesalite, but I wouldn't kick the Sapphire out of bed so to speak. They are both great.
My Moonwatch and Explorer 1 are not only my favorite watches that I own, they are my favorite watches of all time. |

New convert here! Late model tritium 145.022 with hesalite of course. An absolute icon

Many threads answering that very question as many people were in your place.
The short answer is how you set your priorities and what you like more but there isn’t a wrong answer Hesalite: The history Beautiful dome Easy buffing You don’t deal with a milky ring Sapphire: Clear case back Stronger crystal I went Hesalite myself and know that I made the right choice!

I went the sapphire sandwich route and am very happy with my purchase. I could have easily gone the hesalite route and would have also been quite content. I just like glancing at the back on occasion through the sapphire window. Whatever you choose, just do it. You will love the watch!

Ok, OP just to make sure you know:
Hesalite has Omega logo crafted in the glass, now you know I was in your shoes and after checking both when I put the hesalite on it was over for me. But as stated you cant go wrong with either Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I am leaning toward the Hesalite but the open caseback on the Sapphire is intriguing. I see a BNIB Sapphire Sandwich going for 25% off retail. Does that seem about right or do you think I can find one even more discounted?

Just ordered my first brand new Omega. Hesalite Moonwatch, tried it on first at an AD was surprised by how light it is. Can’t wait for it to arrive. I hope you enjoy yours!

I got the Hesalite then for $400, I’m having my AD order the original sapphire case back and ring to display the movement
That way I will get the best of both worlds........ will post pics with the final results when finished

That’s pretty fair, but it’s rumored omega will update the moon watch next year with the new 3861 movement. I’d wait for that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A fairly common conclusion I have read here “why has it taken me so long to buy a speedy”
For what it’s worth, side by side hesalite vs sapphire = visually the curved hesalite destroys the (milky ring) sapphire crystal. Great Timing /opportunity to pick one up.

I believe the movement is slightly less impressively finished on the hesalite model.

Wow. That's a very cool and helpful comparison ^. Nice find
I've always enjoyed the acrylic crystal's slightly glossy luster, and the way bright sunlight sometimes plays beautifully through it and onto the dial. Also, maybe it's just me, but it seems like my watch's acrylic crystal looks better at five years' age and ~5 annual buffs with Polywatch. It seems to have more of that slightly "wet" and glossy luster that I find unique and attractive. Just sharing another photo for no particular purpose except to share a photo |

Honestly thought I’d ultimately go with sapphire, but glad I changed my mind to Hesalite. If they still made the model with the Hesalite and sapphire casebook I’d go that route though.

So I ended up going with the Hesalite purchased through a grey dealer on TRF. Very excited! Hope to get it by Friday. Will post pics once it arrives!
