As the owner of its predecessor, the SBGY003, I can only say that seeing and wearing is believing. Few other watches are as pleasurable to wear.

Looks great. I love the power reserve on the movement-side. At $8,300, though, I wonder if I’d prefer the SBGW231 with the cream dial.

Yes it looks nice with the power reserve on the back where it should be, compared to skyflake, snowflake and most of the rest. I would take the slimmer and cleaner look of this over the skyflake, and if it's for dressy occasions it doesn't matter too much that the WR is only 30m - I'm not going to shower in a leather-strapped watch.

Though people say a date window spoils the dial of a dress watch, they are a practical feature that I would prefer to have, which might keep me on the sportier spring drive watches.

Very interested to see this one in the flesh. Looks beautiful! It also eliminates my pet-peeve about most SDs, that little meter on the dial that always seems out of place to my eyes. The textured dial with a touch of blue is stunning, and the simplicity and concept behind the watch is very appealing. So Japanese.

The 9r31 is basically an undecorated 9r02 from the micro artist studio. The watch should be 5 figures. It’s a redic value at $8300.

Agreed. One of a few modern GS which I like on the wrist. Since the 003 was released I had been waiting on different dials to come, hoping to see some more iterations too.

The SBGW231 is very nice, but it's apples and oranges, comparing it to this new SBGY007. They're so different, from the case shape, dial color/texture, movement, etc ... The case size is different too, 37.3mm for the 231 vs. 38.5mm for the 007. The 231 is also quite a bit thicker (11.6mm vs. 10.2mm).

Sure, they're both classic-design, retro-looking watches with light dials, but the similarities end there. I think a lot of the extra money is going into that spring drive technology in the 007.

Pic to illustrate my point above. There’s no torque return system in the 9r31 like the 02. But you can see how similar the two are. Both are brand new from a couple years back and not comparable to the 9s64 movement. Before just saying “yikes the price” make sure you know what you’re talking about.

i love the sbgw231 but there's definite difference in finishing on the lower end. not that noticeable to the naked eye but certainly not the same

Only thing that disappoints me is the "ice-blue" color theme on the dial... why does it have to be a pale blue dial? WHY?? If this were ivory, cream, white, or black, I would be all over it.

The SBGY007 appears much lighter in person. The light ice-blue is very subtle. Just like the "Seasons" Spring edition that looks pink in the GS promo material, but in real life is not really that pink.

Here's a photo under store lighting of the new 007 that my AD sent me.
