1972 1675 with mk4 possible??

Hi everyone,

I read on the website www.gmtmaster1675.com that is possible for a mk4 dial to be of a 1972 year. I thought it was too early for an mk4 but apparently for serial numbers between 3M-3.3M.

See pic below.

Did I misunderstood? Or is this piece (for example) period correct?
