...Wonderful pics!

Dubai is a place that I really want to visit someday.
Although it seems to be a wonderful place, and makes me have the will to even live there, at same time the HOT weather gets me away from any thought of that.
...I have have my share of hot weather since I have a sunny beach city in Brazil as hometown, and recently moved on to a colder city as I´m tired of beaches/sun/sand (never liked it to say the truth)...

But if I was able to get a good job in Dubai, that paid worthly the desert-alike temperatures, who knows... ;)

Loved the pics, I´m always interested in knowing/learning more about Dubai.
Thanks for sharing, JJ!

Cheers,
Erwin.

Seriously, that thing is an engineering master piece.
UAE has done wonders with it's tourist industry as it's oil runs out.

It looks good to see how others live, but really not my cup of tea. I like some acreage around me............

I like to get out in the garden in the buff and just enjoy nature........ Neighbours have not complained yet........

I'm waiting for Joe to seize the opportunity and chip in with something timely.

I watched several documentaries a few years ago on the Discovery Channel/NGC on how the islands were constructed - very interesting.

The concept is interesting, but in reality they're nothing more than ticky-tacky MacMansions.

I wonder what happens to these houses when global warming raises temp by even 0.5C. Would these artificial island all soak in water?

These islands are all very well but the traffic congestion in Dubai is out of hand. They are supposed to be installing a mono-rail system so people can get around. Another drawback of these constructions is the erosion of natural beaches further down the coast. The the sea currents have all changed and it's an environmental disaster.

There's not much chance of that in the Gulf. Too many obstructions for a wave to form.

No way. NZ has been my home for over 12 years now......and my wife and I have very good jobs. So why would I want to try and relocate at my age and start life all over again?

Besides that, I have my whole family here!! And I also have my own debt free, mortgage free, 2-bedroom, fully-refurbished unit!!

JJ

It may be an engineering marvel, but it looks like an over-developed nightmare. I prefer the natural world rather than something artificially created like that monstrosity where you could cross the island by jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

Fascinating engineering feat, but what soulless tract homes. For the price of one of those places, I'd be living in a beautiful home in San Francisco, with a yard, overlooking the bay. Or in a mansion with a view of the French Riviera. C'mon!
