Resizing Jubilee Rolled Link Bracelet?
I bought a vintage Datejust for my wife for Christmas that is on a 6252H Jubilee bracelet. I took this to our local jeweler to have it resized and he was telling me they would have to cut open or even torch the links to have it done - is this correct? Can't imagine that is the case but haven't been able to get a clear cut answer in looking around online.

I guess I should add the clarification that they tried to tap out/hammer out the pins inside the "rolled" link and they would not come out. If this is the proper way, then what the hell do you do? :)

First of, I'm not super familiar with the sizing of these since I work on movements mainly, but I do believe the links have to be bent open to remove them. You should ask Rikki, I'm sure he would know the answer.

There are some older rolled link Jubilee bracelets that have soldered links and those would have to be cut in order to bend the links. The 'newer' rolled link Jubilee bracelets have links that are scored and separated and can be bent in order to remove links.
Either way, it's a hassle and I would leave it to a professional used to dealing with this sort of resizing or risk damaging the links forever. |

That's really the plan - it's just been difficult to find a professional who has this experience in the area ;).
I appreciate everyone's feedback. |
