Etched Crown

If the etched crown is visible in a photo of the submariner, is that a good indication of a fake? I thought it was only visible with a jewelers tool.

It depends on the lighting and angle of view.

This is a macro shot of my 14060M with an LED shining from 12 o'clock.

If the LEC is as big as a horsefly, then something is wrong.

If the lighting is right it’s pretty easy to see, not that that means fake or not. Here’s my 14060M at a good angle, lec is easy to see.

In my opinion.
If you can see it - act with extreme caution.
Watch may not ultimately be a fake, but suspicions are raised.

That said the fake LEC's are getting very good!

Disagree. The LEC is easily seen in photos taken with good lighting. It is not an automatic red flag to be able to see it in ad photos.

Thats fine. You are entitled to your opinion.
I will continue to hold mine based on what I have experienced and continue to see

It is obvious from the pictures posted here that the LEC is easily seen in pictures. I have several of my Explorer where the LEC stands out in iPhone images without me trying to expose it.

It is not at all unusual to see the LEC in photos, so telling a buyer they should be extremely cautious when seeing it is not sound advice. Better that we compare the LEC in a particular ad to known good examples, then speak to the authenticity of the watch in question, rather than making blanket statements.

Also, beware of looking at photos to determine if a watch is real (could be a Real Rolex in the photo, but a fake one sent). Buy the seller.

Another one of those things that you can't use with 100% certainty.

Op, LEC is not the only security feature. You can check for many other features to determine a fake from real. This sounds like something that it was discussed by another member on another thread, seems like some people are looking to get an insight on some authentication features...
Hope op is not gathering information for noob factory...

Thanks for the input. I actually was curious for myself. I just bought my first 116610LN today from a TRF member. Looking forward to getting it. Sorry for the newb question.
