A modded Rolex comes out fine . . .
Picked up a regular black dialed OEM Sub reworked with blue bezel insert and dial color change to mimic the white gold model that Rolex has. Was a bit apprehensive for/of quality control on the part of the non AD modder but gotta say it's more than met my expectations, love this thing and my Sub accumulation is now complete, huzzah!!!

I am not sure I am feeling it 100% but I do applaud you for doing something different.
If I had the guts to do some modding, I would have kept the original bezel and swapped the dial.

Try to source genuine parts, they are findable. Modded is so much better than frankened.

So is it a genuine case, bracelet and movement? If so ..... why would you do it?
Do you still have the original dial and insert? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

did the op state that the parts are not genuine?
update...I see that in post 18 op states that the insert is aftermarket and that the dial has been repainted.

In theory I would love to do this, but I probably never would.

Thx for comments guys, both + and -. For the record and for anybody interested or who cares, I did not do the mod/frank/whatever. I saw it for sale (along with a bunch of others) already done up. The blue bezel insert is after market and the OEM black dial from the watch was redone in blue and put back on. I'm sure if I searched/waited long enough, I maybe coulda' found one with OEM Rolex parts but uh, I'm 68 years old not 28 so time (no pun) is of a bit of essence.
As to "poser" and "fake", well wait till I post my Invicta and Steinhart holdings. I'll show 'em with my OEM Patek's/ALS's/BP's/etc and whoever posted that comment can go to town, heh . . .

Doesn't bother me especially for the cost/price difference when I'm spending my money

I've got a funny feeling this thread is headed one way....
That would be a pretty fantastic mod if you had used all genuine parts (in my humble opinion). |

Again, I didn't do it, when/if I find one that qualifies that way, it'll be posted too though I'm not sure I'd buy it since I like this one just fine . .

If your going custom, why try to mimic a watch that's already out?
I think it would look cool with the OG bezel. I might consider getting a used 116610 and do a fun color dial (re-paint) Also, why didn't you just buy a used 116619? If you had to sell it the loss would be the same as the loss you would take on your Franken + money you put into it. |

I like stock. I also like mods and this one looks nice to me and I'd certainly wear it. Thanks for sharing.

Your watch, do what you like.
All OEM parts would be ideal, but I think it looks good, it's a killer colour combination, and still a top-quality Rolex under that bezel insert & splash of colour. If you hadn't flagged it as a mod, I bet most of the responders wouldn't have scrutinised it so forensically for flaws. You already have a super Sub/Diver collection, so you're clearly not "faking it 'til you make it", and you're not representing the watch as something it's not, and presumably bought it at the corresponding price point for the provenance, so what's the harm? If you're happy, then enjoy it. |

Clearly most on here definitely wouldn't do/have this, but it's your watch so fair play to you.
If you're happy with it, that's all that matters |
