Red Sub with a red service Luminova dial... got one? Info? Please share!

Here’s mine after three years keeping my eyes open for one! (Watch came complete, not just the dial)
I’ve reasearched this topic so much, read everything I can about them and looked at loads of photos, including some superb shots, thanks to Haywood, Stefano Mazzariol, drsd.com to name a few.
Anyone know when Rolex were supplying these as a service replacement / which service centre(s)?
I phoned Rolex service department (UK) a year or so back and they couldn’t even acknowledge their existence.

Any more information would be brilliant please!

Thanks in advance.

There was a post last year about someone who was able to successfully get a Red service dial from RSC for his very damaged Red sub dial.

most RSC's don't even know about em. These red service dials come directly from Switzerland and they only exchange a red dial for a red dial.

So the only way to do it is to give up an old damaged red sub dial.

On a similar note. Does anyone know if RSC can source matte luminova dials for 5513s? I was looking at a mid 70s 5513 a while back with a later replacement dial (gloss, white gold lume surrounds). I passed, but later thought it might be with it if Rolex could put in a dial like the red service ones referenced here (not red, of course).

I researched this years ago and was under the impression that the work had to be carried out through their ‘heritage’ department. It seems a bit of persistence can make it happen... I gave up! Interesting stuff, thanks.

Hey,

So heritage dep at rolex does the work and restoration on old watches. They go over and beyond compared to what RSC does.

Heritage services start at thousands of dollars and have to go through a very long approval process.

When it comes to red service dials, rolex HQ has them, but they only exchange red for red. I would also like to add that it is treated as a special order and your original vintage red dial is sent to HQ for authentication before rolex returns a service red dial to RSC.

If you do not request and be persistent about these dials, RSC would replace your damaged vintage red dial with a white service dial by default

I think these are the only service dials that keep the watch's value (when compared to a keeping the damaged one)

I've personally never seen a matte Luminova service dial for the 5513. The later 5513s had gloss dials with gold surrounds, and every Luminova service dial I've seen on both matte and gloss model years has resembled a 14060 Swiss dial.

Maybe they exist. I just haven't run across one.

The typical rule-of-thumb is that any model that never had gold surrounds will have a matte service dial and painted markers. If gold surrounds were ever introduced during production then the service dial will also have gold surrounds.

That’s good to know. Thanks. It’s too bad, because the later dial ruins the look of the 5513.

x2. Now, it might retain more of its value with these rare red 1680 service dials, versus a standard white 1680 service dial, but the value will still take a big hit.

Given the same price, I will take the service dial over original any day.

Patina is great, but I think if you have a water damaged or poorly looking dial, this is a great option to know Geneva still has Red dials available.

Nice, thanks for posting! Did you get yours with the dial already fitted?

.... there doesn’t appear to be many of these around.

I got mine with the dial fitted from a NY based dealer Justin Blau (Perfection of Time). Great guy. Watch flew 9000miles and landed on my laps 3 days after payment. Now I'm the proud owner of this baby.

Luminova brother

Ps: I believe this watch was posted here by a SF dealer back in June. However post was deleted. Maybe someone can fill me in.

I would try to source a correct insert for both those watches with service dials...the skinny font inserts just look terrible
