skipped ahead

Hi all,
Went to the gym today and had my Tudor in my pocket while I was on the treadmill - not running, but walking briskly. Afterwards, I noticed that the watch had skipped ahead about 20 seconds.
Previously, it had been running well - +2spd on wrist; 28800, 0.1msec., 300 ampl, 0 to 5 positional variation on timeograph.
When I got home, I put the watch on the timeograph, and got essentially the same numbers as before.
The watch appears to be running fine again, but I'll continue to monitor.

What could cause a watch to skip ahead like that?
I don't recall any sudden shock, just had the watch in my pocket.
If it happens again, I'll take it to my watchmaker, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

What did you check this jump-ahead with?

Checked it against my atomic clock, as well as NIST time

I don't think this is unusual if you give a watch a good shaking.

The shaking can affect the amplitude for a short period of time.

There have been TRF members who have used this to correct their watch after it has lost a few seconds.

However, 20 seconds sounds like a whole lot of shaking going on.

Sounds like the treadmill had a loose ground wire and magnetized your Tudor.

That, or an unshielded flux capacitor. Anomalies in the time/space continuum can be a little tricky to diagnose.

Try winding the watch manually - quite a bit more than is needed to get it fully wound - don't know what that would be on your watch, but in theory with an automatic, should not be a problem anyway as the bridle should slip - but just may not be doing so consistently on your watch.

Put it immediately on your timing machine and have a look at the amplitude and the timing trace to see if it is overbanking until it winds down a little. It will be very obvious if it is.

My Explorer will misbehave like that if I happen wind it too much if it's been completely run down. I'm told it isn't unusual on some Rolex movements (I know yours is a Tudor).

I don't know whether energetic movements might do the same.

Worth a try.

Fred48 you have to realize these are engineering mechanical miracles that are basically regulated by one main spring and there are tons of things that will affect accuracy and movement is at the top of the list, case in point I have a Rolex DJII and after giving it a full wind if I just let it rest in any position it gains or loses only a few secs a week but this is just letting it rest but upon wearing everyday it consistently gains +4 secs everyday so by weeks end it’s almost 30 secs fast.

I used to obsess about this but am finally enjoying the piece for what it is and what Peter ( Padi56 ) and others have pointed out to me is in the scheme of things only gaining 4 secs of of 84,400 secs in a day is not much so in your case I would guess to say that the jogging/fast power walking is affecting it since just wearing it seems to be ok
