Ok, just saw this and the Generac just made me say out loud....holy $&&@ , that’s what I want!! I have been contemplating this for some time, but I think I am going to do this in the spring/summer!
Incredibly smart upgrade! And the transformation of your exterior of the house is top notch.
Good luck today.

Congrats on the new house! We share your aversion to debt. Allows for greater flexibility and restful nights. Many people have too many bills and a month goes fast.

Just wondering looking at the 2nd to last picture, the garage looks like it belongs to the neighbours house (looking at where the fence is at). Why wasn't the fence placed on the other side so your garage is more placed in your garden?

No idea what the laws are in the US or how it's all arranged.

I like it better that way. So it’s not an eye sore when you’re sitting enjoying the yard...

okay, so the last few days have been a bit of a disaster.

had to take down two more trees, and one of the pipes in the house burst, so it was raining in my kitchen. contractors are there yesterday and today ripping up walls and putting them back together.

boxes everywhere and the initial adjustment is really not going well at all.

i do love the house. and i can see it getting much better once we are unpacked and cleaned up.

but damn, this process is not fun at all. only took minimal time off as i am super busy at work.

so this weekend will be nice to unpack more and finally settle in a bit.

this was a bad month to take off drinking. i almost caved a bit the last few days. i know for fact it will be a temporary fix, but oh how I would love to sit on my couch with some whiskey and settle down for a bit.

You will not remember the early days. On the other hand, we live in our house for thirty years and I hate moving. Hunker down!

Looks like they are fencing the dogs in, not people out. This placement secures the dog pound while leaving the drive open.

Looks awesome Seth. That siding looks crisp.

A suggestion, put socks on the bottom of your downspouts to direct the rain water away from your house. They are inexpensive, easy to move when you mow, and keep water from ponding near your foundation. There are many options, I like the silencer versions so that I don't have the clamor of water falling on the sheet metal bends at the bottom of the spouts.

Winter is always a harder time to move but hope you can get all the inside work and unpacking done. Your Spring/Summer/Fall on the veranda will repay you handsomely.

In 40 years of home ownership spread over 4 homes, the one the family always remembers is the one with a 3-side wraparound veranda.

Serenity is just around the corner...

Thanks guys.

It is coming along. And we are getting used to a different routine on things.

Lovely neighbors all introducing themselves. And thanking us for making the house look good. Quite a few mentioned that they were hoping for good considerate neighbors. I invited them all in during the first blackout, to stay warm and fed with our generator.

Slowly but surely unpacking and getting through it all. It was tougher than I thought. A lot more work too. So far, I like it very much. The extra work I mean.

Agree. Soon it’ll all be in the proverbial rearview mirror.

This comment came through in the mix of it all. It helped. Thanks

I will definitely do this.

And yes. You are correct about the fence. Getting out of the car to open the fence is not appealing.

Didn’t want to fence in the whole driveway either.

This is perfect for the dogs. And for us.
