Am I mad to consider this switch?

I have had my 114270 36mm Explorer for 3 years now and I think i'm falling out of love with it. Haven't sold a watch from my collection before.

Considering selling up and getting the new Omega Seamaster 300M Black with Black Rubber Strap to have as a daily beater.

Others in the collection - 16610 Sub, Omega Speedmaster 'Speedy Tuesday 1'. JLC Master Ultra Thin Reserve de Marche.

Thoughts appreciated!

I wouldn’t do it if it were me, but you have to do what makes you happy.

You’re not likely to get a lot of “go for it” replies here since the audience will likely be bias towards Rolex.

Yes.

I’m an Omega fan, I own a couple. That particular Omega, not so much.

Why not. It’s a good watch and you like it. Who cares what we think. :)

Go with what you like/love. I wouldn’t sell an Explorer for a Seamaster but I would add a seamaster to go along with the Explorer. The Seamaster is a great looking watch btw.

Sell an iconic Rolex reference with tons of historical cache to buy another brand? If you’re considering that, then I would recommend you go ahead and do it. It doesn’t seem that the Rolex Explorer is for you. Not everyone “gets it”. Would I do it? Never in a million years.

It's cheaper and most times easier to trade watches than wives. Go for it.

Personally? No, I would keep the 36mm Explorer because I absolutely love the size of it. However, if you have fallen out of love with it and you are constantly looking at the Omega sub forum and have the Omega site bookmarked - then do it. It's your wrist, not mine. Be sure to post some wrist shots when you get it.

Ironically, I am in the market for a 36mm Explorer.

Personally, I can understand flipping if it's not getting a lot of wrist time, but I can never support a Rolex to Omega move. Yes, I am snobby in this regard.

Explorer 36mm is such a classic I would be worried you will regret flipping in a few years.

I am a fan of the Explorer reference so I wouldn’t advise anyone to sell it. But if you are not wearing it and you are SURE you don’t love it anymore, then you have to do what makes you happy. Why don’t you put it in the safe for a few months and see how you feel? Sometime a trial separation can be a blessing.

(Why do I sound like a marriage counselor?....)

I don’t think you are mad at all. If it floats your boat, go ahead. Personally with another black diver in your collection I might not but nothing to do with switching to omega as I believe the make a great watch.

Have you considered a red or blue black bay?

I think you will regret it. A 114270 is a keeper.

Go with your gut!

In my opinion, I echo what some others have said - keep the Explorer and augment your collection with a Seamaster.
I've you've had it for three years, and have been in love with it enough to fall out of love, you'll very likely regret the sale down the road.

Am I mad to consider this switch?

To me the 36mm Explorer is one of the few Rolex sports models that actually works with a suit, which I find extremely valuable. I am even wearing my 114270 today.

Plus it is the last Explorer reference true in size to its heritage which is cool. So a no on the trade if it were me.

I like the Omega, and I recently had a Seamaster that looked great, but dang it, it just wasn't a Rolex. The heft, the craftsmanship, the much more comfortable bracelet... I rarely wore it, so I sold it. If it had been on a strap and I had bought it [used] at a better price, maybe I'd still have it.

Instead, I bought a smart watch for my beater - at $175 it was a lot less expensive and quite frankly, the Omega was too nice to be a beater anyway.

In my long roundabout way, I'm saying yes, go for it!

It's really your call; do what works for you. I can see falling out of live easily with a no date even though that's the way I've pretty much gone with my Daytona.
