GMT running fast
Hello all, pretty new to the forum so my apologies if this ends up in the wrong section. I have a quick question. I recently purchased a 16710 and it’s running about 10 secs per day fast. I keep resetting it but it’s consistent, currently about 20 secs fast as I haven’t adjusted for a couple days. Does the watch need a service or could it be magnetised in any way? Any help appreciated.

Sounds like it needs serviced. Even if you purchased the last 16710 ever made, that makes it over 10 years old. It could be magnetized as well but chances are equally high that it's never had a service and needs one.

Regulation could be all that is needed. Take your watch to a watchmaker for further examination.

Thanks for the replies. I will bring it into my local shop and see what their opinion is. It’s certainly too much for me to put up with.

Something else to remember is that COSC certification only means it was certified at the time of casing, so for a 16710, there should be no expectation for it to be that close to COSC. +/- 10 spd isn't terrible, IMO, but I'm not a watchmaker. Rolex will regulate it within their warranty period (at least on the newer models) but like 037 mentioned, no matter what it's well over 10 years old and probably due for a service. Most people think their watches only need a service when their movements run slow or seize up completely, but the opposite is true, too, that if it runs too fast it is due. Unless you have proof it was recently serviced (within the last 3-4 years), it is likely due.

Thanks guys. It’s a 1997 watch So I would hope it’s had at least one service. I’ll get into a watchmaker as soon as I get a chance. If only I had a compass to test

A watch that is magnetised usually gains a bit more than 10sec/day.

There's not enough info here to make any sort of call on what the problem is. these sort of threads don't accomplish anything. Take it to a shop.
