Nothing exciting really. Great idea, will be horrible execution.
One watch watchmaker assembles every part from scratch. That means time, limited numbers and high price. sounds really cool right..DOA.....
This movement is not just a big deal, it may be the most significant news in watchmaking in the last decade or more. The calibur is legendary and perhaps the most important movement of our time (this is from someone that owned the zenith Daytona, Navi, and current Daytona).

This is similar to Zenith raising the El Primero movement from the dead and putting it in their modern watches. You either get it or you don't.

Whatever the outcome, this has WIS in delirium!

Wonder when they will release the new limited edition 2019 50 Years Anniversary of the Moon Landing? Limited to 2019 sets world wide.

sounds very "bespoke" - very limited - very expensive - very impossible to get and the next speculators target with supplies already allocated to "VIP" customers?

cynical but probably correct

aren't zenith still using the el primero calibre? and have been since development ? not sure but I have had el primeros from 70's and 90's and there are plenty of new ones in the windows of watches of Switzerland

Good move by Omeega.

Quietly, during the whole Rolex SS sports situation, Limited production Speedys have garnered a lot of attention and appreciation on the market.

This is what buyers crave and is fuel for a luxury brand to run off of.

It went 'missing' for almost 10 years during the Quartz Crisis. Cool story:

So I’ve thought about this overnight and I think I’ve concluded that I reckon this will be a new addition to the lineup that will likely be very expensive and difficult to obtain due to being fully hand made (assembles) by one watchmaker and it’s probably not something I’d be looking for. It sounds like more of a collector’s piece rather than something you could throw on every day. So, the Sub is back on the cards and I’ll just supplement with a plain Jane hesalite moonwatch in the future (as the standard, untouched version is pretty hard to beat imo).

Sounds like it will reserved for luxury high end gold Speednasters. They will probably sell a ton of them.

This is really good news, but I am not getting my hopes up at all as I can already see this becoming omegas Daytona with the flippers and grey dealers getting their grubby paws on them before us ordinary folk.

I am still grumpy with omega from the trilogy speedmaster “lack of feedback” saga. Accordingly, they will probably only become available toward the end of the year. I wish, just once, they would secretly deliver all the watches to the ADs and then officially release them so that one could go to the AD directly and actually buy one. Not going to happen 😕

I am more excited than I have ever been for an Omega. I thought I was done. I am not. I will be selling my Datejust, bond-era Seamaster and Aqua Terra if I have to for this bad boy!!!!

popped in to the local omega boutique and perhaps unsurprisingly they knew no more than the website had said

we all know that omega can be a bit too keen on limited editions but I think we can forgive them doing more than one limited speedy in what is a special year for the watch

I know I want one almost whatever it is within reason

If you've seen any of my posts on this forum, you'll know I've been hugely disappointed by the situation with Rolex these days. For over two years I've been trying to get a Rolex-- my first watch--, but have been unable to get anywhere. I quickly learned money wasn't the problem. Anyways, I've pretty much given up on Rolex and will hold off until the situation gets better. I've been looking at alternatives and the Speedy was pretty high up on my list (along w/ VC Overseas Chrono 5500, JLC Memovox TDC, Blancpain FF MilSpec, etc.), but now will definitely go the Omega route once the ss 321 Speedy is released- this is incredible news, wow. Just hope I'm able to score one and won't be let down as I've been by Rolex. Wish me luck! This is most definitely THE watch for me! Very excited. You guys think it'll go in the current Speedy Pro 42mm housing or in a smaller case?

At this point, all speculation, aside from a precious metal model that seems confirmed along with a non-LE model of some kind - but not the 50th anniversary Apollo 11th model - which is, frankly, strange.

Happy I’ve got my Speedy Pro Hesalite 1861 at this point. I think the hype machine will be in overdrive when this one lands - quite okay to sit this one out and watch the waitlist, gray market uptick, buy one I don’t want, so I can get one I do drama play out from afar.

I would say no.

Omega will distribute this in a limited fashion and they will be tough to obtain without the usual connections and or a little luck...

So the rising tide will float all boats and the vintage models will see some appreciation as well.

That is my guess...

Highly doubtful, nothing any manufacturer has done has ever nuked any vintage watch. A classic vintage watch that has been here since Elvis and Marylin were alive or when Micheal Jackson was kid will always be special and beyond that, you just cannot replicate that history and rare quality with any fabrication.

If you took the crown guards off a Submariner 114060 or released a PN dial Daytona, nothing would happen to the vintage market and in fact it may actually make them more popular for being the original.
Case in point, Omega's recent Anniversary Trilogy...the original vintage are still holding strong.

No. The price point on this alone will keep alot of people away, let alone the limited availability.
Also, I'm not a vintage guy by any means, but I would think the vintage market also cares about vintage dials and cases, not just movements.

Maybe this is just the beginning

Yeah, it's hard to imagine that these specially made pieces will be priced for easy accessibility. It is possible that after these special models are made, Omega then creates an open edition?

In the meantime, I'm hoping that they distribute these via the online approach, so I'll be up early checking for announcements for the next few months...maybe.

J

PS. I do think it's cool that they are really doing this!!
