Mido Oceanstar strap change and a few thoughts

A few years ago while in Vegas I picked up a Mido Oceanstar V titanium as i had been looking for a sub-$1k diver that wasn’t a Seiko. It checked several boxes- very legible, Swiss, funky colors/textures and light (titanium).

Problem was I never really bonded with it and I think it was prob bc it ended up not being as comfortable on the wrist after prolonged wearing probably due to my small wrist and the fact that the solid end links protruded beyond the lugs, making it wear bigger than its case size.

I thought about selling / trading it but I wouldn’t really get much for it so I just held on to it. This week I decided to inquire about a rubber strap for it - turns out the OEM rubber strap AND titanium deployant w glidelock-type feature was only $71 ?! So I ordered directly from Swatch USA and had it a few days later. Sized it myself w an exacto knife and voila, it was super comfy, fit better, and gave the watch a much more fun look to it... for $71! My only real criticism is they the deployant is quite long and basically takes up a good amount of real estate on the underside of my wrist.

It reinforced a few things which I’ve already learned- the type of bracelet end links could make or break a bracelet for smaller sized wrists (case in point, the new omega seamaster diver 300m end links are flush w lugs and adds to comfort and wearability for smaller wrists), rubber and colored rubber can totally change the look and feel of a watch, and OEM parts from lower-end Swiss companies are dirt cheap compared to there higher end brethren (example, rubber strap and steel tang buckle for new omega above is US $277).

If you’ve read this far, thanks ! Here’s some pics
