A “time capsule “ from 2013

I’ve been reading about GS vs Swiss luxury brands, and came across an interesting thread from another forum. These posts are from October 2013.
I find it very interesting what their predictions were back then , regarding Grand Seiko 5 years down the road;
Because here we are - at the beginning of 2019!

Very interesting to read past predictions. One thing I have learned with my short time with Seiko is that the GS finishing is the best of the best. That for me they have made the watch hobby fun again. That Seiko folks are passionate about the brand. And I honostly believe that the folks at Seiko really care about their customers.

It is interesting to see some of the opinions which people put forward. Time told on this and GS or many regular Seiko's are far from a waste of money. I believe that GS and Seiko itself are an emerging brand for collectors and they are just a lot of fun to own and wear. My two upper end Seiko's rival my Rolex, IWC, Omega and Tudor watches for fit, finish and time keeping.

Totally agree but a lot of GS’s future success depends on its marketing and distribution network- hope they don’t screw it up bc I really love the brand.

I agree that their new marketing push into to USA especially, needs to be handled well,( whatever well means), and needs to be designed for western culture,,

However , as mentioned in the “response post”, -“ GS pretty much sells itself despite its non existent marketing; Such brand loyalty... is not market led.”

So, the challenge is promoting GS , beyond its cult following, to appeal to the general public. I don’t think that “marketing “ will adversely affect the long term value of GS though, because it will always have it’s core strong following .

I actually hope marketing never makes them "popular". It ruins the culture.

Agree but there needs to be a balance. I’d hate to see the brand de-valued bc of poor business choices whether it’s bc of overexposure or underexposure.

I agree!
Also I fear that they might raise prices a lot over the next years , in their bid to be taken seriously as a luxury watch

Me too. Can you imagine if GS turned into Rolex part 2 with all that nonsense going on?

Seiko and GS has has made watches fun again, for me at least.
