I must admit that although I’ve been thinking of doing this for some time, it was not an easy decision to do it now. I would think, “Oh heck, there’s plenty of time for that later. I can continue to wear and enjoy these for awhile”.

But as we are sadly reminded almost every day by Tim’s memorial threads as well as what’s on the news and in the newspapers, life is unpredictable. And although I’m not a law enforcement officer and my life is not in danger on a daily basis, in fact I’m very happily retired, well, stuff happens.

So that was sort of the impetus along with the fact that my boys are all responsible adults, ages 33, 37, and 40. If not now, when? It just seems like the right time. I’ll enjoy their enjoyment of these beautiful timepieces.

Very cool. My Dad did the same thing for me with his 30-year anniversary watch from his employer (blue dial Air-King). It's one of my most treasured possessions.

Admirable gesture. :thumbs up:

I’ve tried many times to do the same with my son, hoping he’d choose the sub 116610LN. Instead he always picks up the timex, says he prefers the indiglo over the sub’s rotating bezel. I don’t understand.

He’s four.

Wow, I just read your thread and I am shocked you decided to do this, but hey I can understand your rationale. But in the same respect, I know you waited until your 60's to purchase your first Rolex timepiece. My daughter will inherit mine (YG Sub), but she will have to wait until my clock expires on the Earth! I paid too much to not enjoy it for a few decades!

Great gesture, and I am sure it will bring you great pleasure watching them wear your watches proudly for many, many years!

Maybe you can "borrow" them once in a while, or possibly pick up a new shiny Rolex for yourself in the near future.

Yeah, it’ll be fun to see them wearing my watches and I’m sure to pick up a watch or two in the future.
In fact I have a Stowa Flieger on order and wouldn’t mind having a Tudor Ranger as well.

Giving them the Watches face to face was a Great Father Son gesture. There could have been a nasty scene, if one of them attempted to remove it after you were in the Pine Box.
I ordered a Tudor GMT for my Son for Christmas. Three weeks later, he tells me not to buy him anything pricey for the Holidays. He is the one and only so, he gets the Rolex's when I pass on.

I can still recall how happy you were when you got the explorer. I bet it was just as gratifying seeing the reaction from your sons. I've similar plan someday. I'm happy for you Angelo and congrats to everyone

What a great gesture! And it is pretty cool that you will get to share the love of watches w your children as you watch them appreciate the gift! I can only imagine the feeling of handing them the watch...it had to be more satisfying that works on a piece of paper!!!

Good form!

Such a special moment for you and your sons to cherish, I am sure.

My father gave me his old DJ when I graduated college. I'll never forget the moment -- few words accompanied the gift, but we both knew then it was a moment that would not be forgotten. I've added some very special watches to collection on my own since then, but that DJ will always have a very special place in my collection.

I admire you for giving your sons such meaningful items. I aspire to do the same some day!

I echo the kind sentiments. Your children must be very happy indeed.

I think that it's a beautiful thing to not only have so many fond memories of your watches, but also have this wonderful memory of gifting them to your sons. God bless!
