To me it would all depend on when I bought it. Less than a year ago? Not an unreasonable request IMO to ensure you haven’t already flipped it. Bought it 2-3 years ago? Seems a silly ask.

Regardless if I bought a watch from an AD I’d go back in wearing whatever I bought from them on my own just to show I’m still enjoying it. When I went to Vegas recently I wore my JC to go visit my SA and look at pieces; I enjoyed showing off the few scratches it has from actually wearing it.

Certainly, but they really shouldn't do it retroactively/unannounced. If they said up front at the time of DJ purchase that they won't allocate a future piece without proof that the OP still has it, sure - then it's up to the OP to decide if that's an AD he wants to play ball with or not when making that first DJ purchase.

Seeming to do it retroactively isn't a best business practice at all, IMO.

The DJ is with my father in a different country, I even offered to show it to them on a video call but they refused!

Not really, quite the contrary.

Mandatory jewellery purchases, "journey" watches, spend history, relation building ...

You frequent these forums. You get my drift.

I think the AD request is reasonable. They do not want to sell to flippers. I think that's a good thing.

If you consider the request offensive and don't want to comply you don't get the GMT. It's as simple as that.

Why? I called it the way I saw it. I guess I could have used the word "entitled" instead of "Karen"

I don’t spend a penny I don’t want to spend. And don’t spend a second dealing with with ADs that I don’t want to spend.

I’m not sure how manipulation is coming into play. I know what the game is, I choose to play. I assume it’s the same with everyone here.

This isn’t food rations

Hell, I'd wear it in to pick up the new one. If I waited on a list, bought watches I didn't want, I wouldn't have a problem wearing the DJ in to pick up the new one at list.

Good that the AD screens for flippers.

You guys can’t have it both ways. You can’t b*tch about flippers, then claim this as insulting. I get why it seems off-putting, but I appreciate their efforts. I would just go in with it on, get my GMT, and walk out smiling. Weird hill to die on.

Every time I visit my AD I wear a watch I purchased from them. I proactively want them to know I am not a flipper.

Assuming this is a legitimate post, this seems like a pretty simple situation. Either, A) wear your DJ in to get the GMT, or B) get the GMT elsewhere (or don't get a GMT.)

They have a right to implement some of their own rules in selling just like you have a right to buy from someone else if you don't agree with their terms. GMTs are quite easy to get (although not from ADs).

Whether normal or not OP has a choice between bringing in the DJ for a GMT (assuming still has) or not and not getting the GMT. I would go in with the DJ :)

Bravo to this AD trying to prevent flipping. As someone said just send them a photo, set to a specific time or on the current newspaper.

Did I quote anyone in my post? Did I single out anyone in particular? Did I even call anyone a Karen? The answer is no. Grow up. Can I say that without offending anyone?

Pretty simple, whether you like the ask or not, they have something you want and therefore dictate the terms of sale. If you were a private seller, you’d do it on your terms so why should there be different rules for an AD…

So wear the old watch when you pick up the BLNR, easy! Win-win.

That GMT model still enjoys a lot of hype. Very $ought after.

No I won’t repeat after you or ‘grow up’.

Settle down. Karen is not a bad word, just slang for “entitled”or “aggressive”. I’m surprised, too, that people are upset about this AD’s request. He’s trying to do what he can to keep us from paying too much for the watches we want. Why is that a problem? If I had to guess, the OP did, indeed, flip his DJ, as is his right. AD also has the right to sell the GMT to someone else, if that is the case.
