Although I’ve had 10 Rolex over the last 30+ years I’ve never been “Rolex only.” The current situation hasn’t really affected my watch habits at all.

Bought a new Omega Seamaster, could not be happier
Rolex had nothing to show or sell me, I was told I would get a call, life is too short

The shortage isn't sending me to other brands but there is at least one in demand Rolex that I've been wanting so I've been keeping a close eye on the grey prices. Even once the supply evens out a bit, prices I'd imagine will still be high as it will take the market a while to normalize. I think we are years away from being able to walk into an AD and see a very popular SS Rolex in the case available for purchase, who knows though I could be wrong.

Yup. Bought a Cartier and haven't looked back. Will look at Rolex again in the future. My purchases aren't driven by impulse.

Could not buy a Sub anywhere so I bought an Oris diver's watch new for 2K. Just as nice and suits my needs perfectly.

I’ve been looking at a bunch of dress watches. 6006g Patek has caught my eye. But so have a couple daydates. I can’t seem to commit to any of them just yet.

one GS and one BB GMT. My next watch will likely be AP. Rolex shortage has completely turned me off.

I've been lucky enough to get all models that I've wanted, so fortunately I haven't had to face this problem. I'm happy with what I have for now, and even the ones that I could see myself buying don't have long waiting lists.

I see that the white Daytona is up into the $25K range on a certain website.
For that money, I will buy a Vacheron chrono. I considered flipping my SD for a DD but one hesitation that I have is that I can't even get a Submariner replacement if I change my mind and want something similar again. I think the unobtainability of some Patek, Rolex, etc. is a huge turn off and makes me more interested in other brands like Vacheron, AP, Omega, etc. The fact that the popular steel sports models are impossible to get makes it much worse. The average Joe isn't going to pay 50% premiums or wait years. They'll just get something else.

I put down a deposit on a black 15500 at the AP boutique in NYC. That money would have definitely went towards a BLNR or Daytona if they were available to purchase.

IWC, AP and Omega are the 3 brands I have started to look at more.
IWC perpetual calendar is an amazing piece for the price. THAT is a watch worth its price over the ludicrous pricing of some Rolex's I'm seeing. |

How many of you have actually purchased a non-Rolex because of the “shortage”
That is a stunning watch. I fell for the Hulk several years back when there were words like “childish” and “too flashy” thrown around. I’ll be happy to sit and wait until the insanity subsides...the OP and DJ look like great places to start. And thanks to this forum I’m learning all about Seiko’s, etc. |

Interesting question. To answer the OP's question, no. My local AD gets pretty much everything. Sorry to beat the rural AD horse, but I've literally had a shot at every hot watch the last couple of years.
I've tried becoming a "watch guy" instead of a "Rolex guy" but none of them stuck, so I guess for now I'm a Rolex guy. I tried a Panerai, a few Omega's, a Cartier and none of them got enough wrist time. I do really want a Lange or JLC though, so maybe it's yet to be determined. |

I've never been limited to the Rolex brand, nor have I been limited to luxury watches.
My last Rolex purchase was a couple of months ago, which was a vintage 16570L on a strap. I bought a couple of nice Orient Bambino watches around Christmastime. I also bought this Hamilton Khaki Automatic in August of last year. None of these purchases had anything to do with the current Rolex market, however. I just buy what I like when I see it. If I don't see it, or can't afford it if I do see it, I don't buy it.

i haven't bought anything else yet, but I intend to make a purchase next year (big birthday) and am closely looking at IWC and Omega - I doubt the SkyD I'm waiting for will be in by then.

I also picked up a Pelagos under similar circumstances. I like it but it doesn’t scratch the itch

Yup the shortage has me completely turned off! I went vintage. Lol All seriousness the state of things has really opened my eyes and I’m glad it did. I’ve picked up several seikos, a Hamilton and an Orient and couldn’t be happier. Ps my vintage pic is the first watch I ever owned circa 1986. My parents bought it for me as a kid. Happy to still have it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What I want to know is how many people have purchased a Rolex because of the shortage.
