Tudor 79260 dilemma (dial change)

I'm hoping the forum can help me on a choice for a dial change, or alternatively let me know if I should leave it alone.

I sent a all black dial Tiger chrono in for a service and at the same time have it refurbished etc.

I would like a black dial with white counters. There is no issue with this request, however the caveat is that if I do change it it will not have the word Tiger on the dial, nor numerals. They can get a new dial with Tiger but it will have to be the same dial colour combo.

The reason is that the Tiger dials are out of production whereas the normal ones are available (prince date, no Tiger). Markers instead of numerals.

What do I do? The market seems to prefer the non Tiger as do I. The paperwork will still remain in tact as it refers to the black dial, but the Tiger box will obviously be off.

This watch will remain in the family etc but I don't want to ruin its value.

I owned a 79260P reverse panda non tiger and loved that watch. I would go with non tiger every day of the week. But if the papers say one thing i would at least keep the original dial in the box. I have a 16613 I do this with it was originally black and I have it set up as a blue right now. I keep all the original parts with it.

Thanks - thats the thing - the RSC has the dials on exchange only, so I will not be able to keep the original.

Since you'll have the paperwork showing the dial swap I doubt it would have a negative affect on value. Plus, panda dials are more sought after than single color dials.

Was thinking the same thing...

Or keep as is and source the dial elsewhere?

He has given me a choice between a ref 62490 or 62590 bracelet. I'm leaning towards the 490....

You reckon this is a good deal?

Ever since the fall of the mighty Tiger Woods, you seem to be much better off with the Tiger-less dials! Since you prefer it, I say go for it.

Only you can make that call. Do you have a watchmaker you trust to swap dials?

There someone who is good, have references from colleagues.

I'm just torn. Would prefer sourcing what I want and keep original dial for completeness sake.. and just in case Woods makes a comeback.

Is it just me or does it seem like there is more demand based on prices on chrono24? Since Basel 17.

Not sure of the current prices but never know what the future holds. It might be the Tiger models that end up being the future Paul Newman's [ok, that might be a stretch].

I typically suggest you find the exact model you want vs "creating" the right model. As you can see I didn't follow my own advice.

Here's what my 79270P started live as.

And how she looks now.

Very nice Dan. I liked the full set and the originality of it. I think I'm too OCD...

Slept on it. Leaning towards no tiger white counters. If tiger becomes Paul Newman oh well :)

Tudor 79260 dilemma (dial change)

Quote received. Not cheap but I did insist on a new 62590 reference bracelet (62490 not made anymore) and a new bezel. Interestingly the bezel insert has to be replaced with the metal outer too.

New dial will be a black stick dial with silver counters. They don't make the opaline counters version anymore. Hands come with it, should be silver.

I did try to get a Rolex crown but they won't exchange a Tudor for one, I was pushing my luck.

ETA 6 to 8 weeks as the Original dial will first go to Switzerland and then the new one sent back. Can't wait and excited! Great service, I phoned maybe 5 times today. Last one was to confirm that I get the original leather and end licks etc back polished :)

So it's all done. Ad sent terrible pics as it arrived back. So all excited I leave the office to pick it up and in disappointment the original end links of the leather strap were missing :(

I obviously didn't pay and take it, they will phone the RSC to get them.

Anyway, came back with the Tudor card and warranty. Has stickers everywhere including the side and rear (I don't remember them doing this the last time I sent a watch in for a service).

Counters look more white than silver but impressed (can't remember now cos I was so excited and then disappointed about the endlinks missing). The seconds counter ends in white which I found impressive... Pics to follow, just want to try and edit it for more light. Holding thumbs for them to get the endlinks tomorrow...

Two years on and you may have to eat your words, Tiger Woods is back and ranked #7 in the world. Won his his 15th Major this year at the Masters. Won another tournament in Japan recently and is a playing captain at the Presidents cup. I think there will be a premium for the Tiger dials in years to come, especially the Tiger Panda dials. Prices are rising and the Tiger written in the same Daytona font helps add t the intrigue.
