Anyone cut down their watch collection and end up happier?

A while back, I decided to whittle down my collection. Now, I’m tempted to just rotate my two favorite pieces — my Dad’s YM and my DJ 41. Anyone have success reducing their collection down to one or two pieces? Did you miss the pieces you sold?

Only Rolex I cut is my 16610. Ended up flipping it and putting it toward my new 116610LV. I love my hulk...but I miss that much immensely. Bought it for 2k, now they are going for over 7-8k, Im not paying that much for that model.

I never understood having a briefcase full of watches. 2-3 max makes sense.

x2 I had a couple but they always got passed up and got no wrist time. I ended up letting them go to someone who would actually enjoy them and I kept the 3 I actually use.

For sure you will miss a piece if you sold it especially if you wear them with certain outfits. I have just enough to interchange occasionally.

Yes, I'm down to 4 and happy! I could probably make do with the IWC and the OP if I had to get down to 2 but 4 is working for me

No. I sold a hulk and vintage Pepsi downsizing four years ago. Not happy about that.

Went from 10 Rolex watches to 7 this year. I'm much happier as I don't miss the three I let go and was able to basically recoup my money I had in them. I'm left with loving everything I have and not wanting for anything else.

From a Rolex perspective, I just want two more. A YG Day Date and a Platinum Day Date. After that Im done with Rolex. I will probably chase after a RG AP & A Patek most likely on a strap. Then I will be done. However that will take decades to complete... In the meantime ill just keep saving for my PM Rolex.

This is a common theme here.

It's all part of the journey and the evolution of the hobby. At one point you want them all and later you pick your favorites and narrow down. As people get older they usually pare down their "stuff".

I had 20 and down to 9. Probably stay there for the foreseeable future.

Yep. I am down to four..Subc ND, Speedie, Seiko Skx and Hamilton Khaki. Of the four, my Speedie gets the most wrist time, with the Sub and Skx mostly on the weekends. Rarely, if ever, wear the Hamilton, but not worth trying to sell. So basically I am happy with 3 and feel that between them they can handle any occasion well. Gone but not forgotten are: Explorer, Gmt2, bluesy, Omega AT.

I’ve recently become of a similar mindset...

My collection currently includes Explorer, OP39, Tudor BBGMT, Omega SMP, Seiko SKX, Seiko SRP777 & a G Shock. I’d envisaged adding a Speedy Pro and a Sub at some point taking me up to 10 watches. The reason I wanted to get up to 10 watches is because that’s the size of my watch case and it feels like my collection isn’t ‘complete’ when there are spaces in the case.

The SRP is actually sold and ready to dispatch, and I’m looking to sell the OP39 following my recent pick up of the Exp. I think I’ll also get rid of the watch case, and pick up something a little smaller.

I’ve come to realise that I struggle to enjoy owning some of my current watches because I can’t dedicate the wrist time to them. I’m now of the mindset I should limit myself to 5 watches which I enjoy more.

Yes. I went from 10 to 6 watches. Have kept the same six in my collection for the past few years and could not be happier. I firmly believe in quality over quantity.

The only watch I truly miss now is the 116610 LV. In hindsight, I should have kept that one. Other than that, I have no regrets.

I’ve got 10 Rolexes at the mom and I would have great difficulties to get rid of any of them. This summer came close however, wasn’t happy with my DJ41 rhodium but had the dial swapped to a blue one & this one will definitely stay.

Well, Ive been thinking of giving my 2018 116713ln + 5 k€ for a 2018 126710BLRO but have been able to resist the temptation so far
That would probably be a bad trade in the longer run.

Anyway, there is not one watch in my collection that I do not like to use. The only problem seems to be is that I need more wrists

We got rid of most of our non Rolex watches as well as the Rolex transition models we owned (because the market was so good relative to what we paid).. Down to just modern Rolexes and an Omega Moonwatch... And some beaters for traveling..

Yes: if I can't wear them, I don't enjoy them. And if I don't enjoy them, then what's the point?

I like a briefcase full....

OP: never downsized- no plans. I carefully add and have none that I am disinterested in.

Had 5 now down to 4 and I'm happier.
I would be happier with 1 or 2 to be honest.

I don't own only 3 shirts so I don't own only three watches. Variety is the spice of life. At least, that's how I see it.

That two tone YM with the white dial is amazing, by the way! My favorite version of the YM, personally.

Unlike your shirts, you’re allowed to wear the same watch 2 days running

I started with 1 the AK in April/19 and for my early birthday gift... In Nov./19 I got the DJ41 Blue as an early Christmas gift. So now I have two Rolex and that's it for me. Also got a few non-Rolex watches that don't get much wrist time.

I use to have 20+ nice watches that I would rotate around. I sold all but 3 5 years ago and for the last 3 years I have worn nothing but my Garmin watch. My new Rolex has sparked my flame again and I've been wearing my other watches more.
