My wrist is small and 5 links on this side is almost too much. I know many people have removed a perm link, but this is invasive and I'm not quite ready to do it. The clasp is really not centered at all and the head leans towards the 12:00 side, but in all honesty, it is not much different than what I've experienced with the 93150 bracelets. I can live with it. In a perfect world, I'd have a Sub-C glidelock clasp on this watch and all would be well with the world.

Wish List
  • Lug holes
  • One more removable link on the 6:00 side
  • Glidelock clasp
  • Silver date wheel
  • Open numeral 6 and 9 on the date wheel

That pretty much sums it up for the 16600 SD based on 48 hours of observation. The movement seems pretty stable at about +2-3 sec per day, but I have not been micro-managing this aspect of the watch.

As a previous Sub-C owner, I must say that the SD is a little bit more stealth on the wrist given its classic lugs and slightly smaller diameter. I've often wanted the 14060 to be my one and only Sub, but I am so dependent on the date that I can't really do the 14060 every day (good weekend watch).

I hope this is helpful. Here's a quick photo I snapped in the driveway today while waiting for my family to join me for a trip to the pool.

Great Review!!!

How is yours st up? How many removable links and on what clasp hole do you have yours?

I love my SD. I have a Z, so no lug holes either. I could have also purchased a Y (which had the lug holes), but I chose the Z because it was in better shape.

Great watch and review. I have a Sea Dweller for many years and love the way it looks and feels. Getting ready for service soon and will replace it with a Brietling to wear in the mean while.

Congrats on a great watch! I've had mine 7 years in "light rotation" and had it serviced at 5years. The bezel insert had gotten scratched so I had that replaced. They also replaced the pallet fork for some (resumably valid) reason. I had it done at a very experienced AD whom I trust. I had not case polishing done. Didn't need it and didn't want any metal removed.

JMHO. Enjoy that watch!!

Still in Week one with my SD - F Serial. I love the watch. Its heavier than my Explorer II, and GMT II, but wears better than both of my others.

Nice review, great watch. When I bought my first Rolex in 2002, I was torn between the Sea Dweller, Submariner, Submariner Date and the GMT. I bought the GMT that day, and, years later, acquired those two Subs.

The Sea Dweller is a watch I would have loved to own. I prefer it over the Deepsea by a wide margin, were I in the market for a dive watch more robust then the Subs.

Enjoy!

Great review, just picked up a 01 SD a month ago and love it.
I like yourself haven't been able to stay put on one.
I originally liked the SD and found a Sub w/ date and purchased that in 08.
Sold it and got a GMT II Coke Jubilee band... to dressy with the Jubilee and still wanted a SD.

Love mine and wont look back any longer, picked it up from the original owner with everything :)

I agree that there should be 1 etra removable link on the 6:00 side so I bought a Daytona bracelet and it works perfect. I also did it for my regular sub, I love the easy link clasp. The glide lock it too long for me.

Glidelock clasp

Great review,
I'm new to the forum. After tolerating my Deepsea for 19 months I found it too heavy.Enter the new purchase, a Z series Seadweller with its totally original tinfoil style clasp!I was lucky enough to buy a second hand glidelock clasp from a ceramic sub.A few modern ceramic sub bracelet links later (they are actually half a mm narrower than the seadweller links) and VIOLA my perfect everydayer! Of course one keeps all the original parts in case of resale but I cannot stress enough how much of an improvement this addition makes to the older Rollers. To the pure, purists please bear in mind some of us would rather wear our watches constantly and hence the usability factor is king.My SD is totally authentic Rolex all the way (just not original); IMHO it is a touch of customisation that is within the bounds of the brand's integrity.
So for now the collection sits at the 116520 White dial SS Daytona ,a blue/gold ceramic sub and the aforementioned Seadweller...I'm waiting with baited breath for Rolex to put out a titanium Deepsea without the "gas escape valve /ring lock" writing on the dial-Now there's a thought!
Take care all:)
