So Chicago AD tries To Argue With Me Over The Display Watches

Trying to tell me they are fake and have no movements. When I asked for them to take one out so I could try and wind it they refused. This is the same AD that was reported to Rolex for selling to the gray market. Obviously these are going to be headed in that same direction once Rolex releases them. A lot of hanky panky going on at Rolex these days.

Some of the original exhibition watches did not have real movements. Seems the exhibition watches that have been getting to dealers in the past months have active movements.

Which branch? The old orchard one had the non-functioning ones at one point. Rep specifically said that could be set. However I can understand why they wouldn’t want you to attempt to wind, as that could theoretically damage the movement (which is real, just pinged so it won’t work).

Oak Brook They are real one of them was running. I'm so tired of the A/D shenanigans now.

Never been. Only gone into old orchard but the guy who’s usually there is always friendly and has no problem letting people handle the watches. I made a comment on how SkyD looked to be functional since it was the only one not set at 10:10. He said it was not windable but was setable and everyone wanted to try it out and see how to actually set it because of the relative complexity.

Some exhibitions were duds. So, who won the argument, you or security?

Why does it matter? They are not for sale.
Seems like you are just arguing for the sake of arguing.

In most cases, my assumptions are AD marks watches as exhibition ones, just to avoid any unnecessary discussions over availability of watches shown. Usually those pieces are already spoken for, so it serves a second purpose. To deter any negative emotions on behalf of future-to-be owners of watches exhibited. So do not even bother asking when you see “For exhibition only”. That watch won’t reach you.

That's what I think as well. I bet if someone who they want to sell it to walks in and asks for it "oh, the display limitation ends on it today, if you want it's yours". And if someone else does "sorry, they are display only, we can't sell them yet". Allows to advertise watches to people who will probably never get them otherwise without having to bring the watch out the back and telling you we can't sell it, someone has already reserved it.

Well, back in the day when Basel existed and the new models toured ADs, they were furnished with weights instead of movements. That way, ones couldn't "accidently" get lost + customers got to experience the weight of the watch & always see the 10:10 time.

Maybe the "exhibition" models are the same?

Sounds like a great way to impress them enough to sell you a watch.

If the AD literally used the word “fake” then that could be a problem

Its a private store and they can DO WHATEVER THEY WANT.
No customer has any right to tell a private establishment what to do.

Those watches, if they are real as you claim, will be sold.
Why would they want 250 customers that walk in everyday to try them on and set them 250 times before they are sold.

Some posts on TRF are simply just ..... idio...c
