Honestly I’m not surprised. In my opinion, one shouldn’t play golf with a mechanical watch. Certainly not in an AP. Like driving a Ferrari over speed bumps 70+ times repeatedly. You just don’t do it.

There have been many mechanical watches that have survived literal war zones. I think a watch should be able to handle a few rounds of par 3 golf. OP even said he never used a driver.

And as many that have failed, you only see a few survivors of WWII pilot watches because many have been destroyed or were replaced when broken.

We tend to forget that during those times, if your mechanical watch broke (happened a lot), you would pick another up. As long as the watch was reliable enough to last a few battles it was probably good enough, didn't need last the whole war.

The logo should be held down with a metal pin, looks like the metal was snapped clean off. Probably shocked in a bad angle, quite unlucky.

Yes, the prongs on the upturned AP are visible in your pic.

As for golf and any watch - IMHO it isn’t just the driver that does the worst to the watch “shockwise”. It’s the length and depth of the divot that also imparts some serious shock.

Wow that sucks! Ill admit, playing golf with a high end mechanical wristwatch that isn't built for the sole purpose of sharp impact over and over again (certain RM) isn't something I'd remotely consider doing. Just send it directly to AP and definitely don't mention the golf lol.

I don't play golf but if I did I doubt I'd wear a watch whilst doing it, if for no other reason than comfort.

As for the logo coming off, its unfortunate but just one of those things and clearly a very rare occurance indeed. The significant thing now is to see how well and quickly AP sort it. I feel sure that they will and if I were them I'd be really very embarassed about it.

From the above pics it looks like the seconds hand is still moving and if you've not already done so I'd suggest pulling the crown to stop movement.

To be honest I don't think a driver would be an issue. IMO more likely that a big 'ol fat shot with an iron would cause more shock to the watch than anything else. We've all planted a nice fat shot with a huge divot that flies 10 yards LOL!! you feel all the energy shooting up your arm when that happens, I'm sure the watch does too

i think you should be able to play golf with near any watch of this level on a rubber strap.. i have been to the driving range with a daytona, a yachtmaster, submariner and never had any issues. I have never worn my royal oak 15400 anywhere near a golf course though and probably would never.

The moment AP straps it on a pro golf player, they are indicating golf is a go. Same with tennis (Serena, Stan W). Whether you'd want to do it or not, diff story. I would not.

So I took the loupe myself and made sure to show her how I removed the dried up water droplet from the crystal...

My view on that boutique has completely changed. You walk in +$50K deep into the brand and that is how you are treated. A complete joke.

You should have stood your ground like the crazy Tim Hortons lady.
