Help ID this reference, year and value - 70s

This watch was bought in the 1970s by my HK Chinese grandfather in law. He kept it until he passed away two years ago and left it to my wife. She's become interested in its heritage after a trip to the RSC where we live in Saigon.

The RSC commented on the rarity of the bracelet and the excellent condition of the movement. It was running at 15seconds fast per day but in 10 minutes that has been fixed and it's now flat.

What is it ? When was it made? Not that we will sell It, but what is it worth ?

Serial # will tell when it was made.

If its genuine £3000 the clock hand make it look like a copy as the original had slots in them Have a look at Rolex air king 1978 if you look at a pic on google you will see the hands are different

It isn't a copy. RSC have already confirmed that.

The hands are different the hands on yours look solid an the air kings from the 70s thay have a cut out in them or a infill that’s why I said if it genuine it won’t let me add images on here so I carnt show you what I mean. it looks just like the 1978 air king but the hands are not the same unless thay have been replaced I search all the way back to 1964 an none of them have solid hands

RSC would have stated the ref on the service receipt. I believe that's a reference 5500 Air King, with a folded bracelet.

A quick search on Chrono 24 and you'll have a good estimate on what it's worth.

What are the endlink numbers on the bracelet? This info will determine if the bracelet is indeed rare as RSC claims.

Its just a non-lume model and the hands are correct for a non-lume model.

Thank you kindly. I was amazed to see somebody jump in and say it was all wrong. So rude!

257 on the end links, and 783519 on the bracelet.

Bracelet looks ok to me but I wouldnt go as far as the AD to say the bracelet is rare. It is in really nice condition but the 7835 is very common.

It’s a great Watch. Model 5500 I suppose. Wear it and enjoy her. Ignore the comments above which question authenticity. It is certainly authentic

I don't know, if someone sincerely thinks there is an issue with the hands, that's fine. I don't consider it rude at all. That's what the forums are for, exchanging ideas.

By making the comment, it was confirmed as okay by others and so now you can feel more confident with the originality. So the "rude" comment has actually added useful information to the thread that otherwise would have been missing.
